BJJ inland empire,ca

Hi all I recently moved to the Chino area, looking for a good BJJ school. Any recommendations for say a 12 mile radius from Chino?

inland me

im pretty sure theres a ralph gracie school in chino hills...thats close.
and do yourself a favor...drive as soon as possible to homestyle cafe and have breakfast...youre welcome

Rodrigo Teixeira in Covina.

Nicest and most humble person you'll meet. He is not super well known, but has beaten big names like Mike Fowler and Bill Cooper.

I second this. Incredibly nice guy and very good active competitor.

I believe... If its the same Rodrigo... It's Pedro Carvalho's brother. Good lineage. (although I do not know who Rodrigo is BB under) Phone Post

Yes, it's him. I heard that Pedro had moved to Florida and Rodrigo took over the school. Despite running his own school, he still makes time to drive to Culver City to train with Kron.

Covina isnt very close to Chino, but I guess it fits the 12 mile radius. There's a Gracie Barra in CHino, and a Millennia in Chino Hills, check them out.

Pedro moved to Florida and has a few businesses going. He isn't very interested in teaching BJJ these days (according to a friend who is a BB under him).

Rodrigo has had his own school for years.

Millennia MMA has Lapella teaching 3 nights a week plus a ton of fighers, bjjers and Chad Davis (BB and MMA Coach), BB's Romie and Bettis and stand up. Thats Rancho or Chino Hills.

Rodrigo and I are both black belts under his brother Pedro Carvalho. Yeah Rodrigo is nice and real good. He was doing inverted guard long before Ryan Hall even knew what BJJ was.

Not sure who that is, who is Lapella?

I think Javi no longer teaches there right? I recall reading he started his own BJJ school in Rancho Cucamonga.

OP has some solid choices if he's willing to drive 12 miles, lots of options.

That is correct...Javi has his own school now. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Rancho Cucamonga.

Ralph Gracie Chino Hills is an excellent gym if your looking for quality BJJ instruction. I've trained there and they have 3 black belt instructors who all bring a different style of teaching. Definitely give it a try and tell Laura (the owner) that SheerTechnique referred you. She'll hook you up! :) Phone Post

Lapella is Marcello Mofra. He is a very slick Demian Maia BB. He is on YOUTUBE or you could come down and check him out.

I train daily at Millennia myself. That said, Ralph Gracie is a top notch school and Brad jackson is a good friend and former coach to me. Javi Vasquez is an excellent teacher and former coach and workout partner to me.

You can not go wrong with any of these schools. They all offer something a little different and offer a good value for what is offered. Try each of them out and be thankful that we have options near your new home.

Welcome to the hood.

Thanks for the replies. I will check out these schools. Didn't realize how much BJJ pricing has gone up in the last couple years.

Tons and tons of good places in that area. Ralph Gracie's awesome because you have the Chino Hills spectrum and shops just across the street. Millennia is just up the road also and also gives you the option to train at the Rancho location and Lapela is an awesome guy to train with. Upland isn't too far from you also so I would recommend at least checking out Lucas Leite at checkmat and Javi's Gracie Academy also. There is also Gracie Barra in Chino and brand new location in Diamond Bar as well. Phone Post

Not sure if you're from socal, but the prices here are among the highest in the country I'm sure.

Some serious badass names being thrown around here, I dont think you can make a wrong choise.

the places mentioned are all worth looking into. I also want to add Gracie Barra Corona, as well as 10th Planet Riverside

It's a little bit of a drive, but there is a checkmat affiliate in Corona with Buchecha and Marcello Mofra teaching. Phone Post
