Bjj vs Catch Wrestling

Many people I have talked to thinks that the Brazilian's almost invented submissions, which is not true. I was at a seminar with a British catch wrestler about a year ago. The stuff he showed was incredible effective! When I roll with some Bjj guys at the gym, they simple have no answer to the techniques. What do you guys think? Who is the most usefull in MMA, Catch or BJJ?

You should probably have tried to learn some English from the British fella.

I've never even had any Catch Wrestling experience.

Yes, I also notice that white belts have no answer for technique.

I really think that catch wrestling is very underrated. I would absolutely love to learn it.

I bunch of different neck cranks. Heel hooks, foot locks from almost anywhere. I'm not saying that there is none that can counter catch wrestling techniques. I'm just saying that I find Catch wrestling much more useful then BJJ when it comes to grappling with no gi. I mean no disrespect to BJJ when I say this! I do like BJJ as a sport, but I just find Catch wrestling more useful when it comes to "some" submissions.

The one thing that I do really like with catch is that you learn to "catch" submissions from everywhere. No matter what position you are inn, there is a way to catch something. Thats why Catch wrestling have the slogan "Catch as catch can"

There are things that I find better in BJJ then Catch also. Specially the part of control. Ways to control and keep the guy down.

I do have a White belt in BJJ,and I roll with blue and purple belts that have problems with the techniques. I train
mostly without a gi. And the reason is because I find it more useful to learn the techniques without a gi.

I personally would learn both. But, are there any catch-specific techniques, or a different philosophy or anything?

If a white belt went for heel hooks and neck cranks on me constantly, I’d probably do something rather nasty in retaliation.

Who was the guy that put on the catch seminar?

Here is one of them,I'm talking about the choke not the armbar btw.

I think its nice how the uke in the Cecchine video doesn’t use his right arm to prevent that choke. Just keeps it out there all loosey under the arm.

Does it matter if the guy has a white belt?

If you never knew the guys belt and let's say you got tapped in a SW tournament. Would it matter to you if the guy had a black belt or a white belt?

my friend wh is a 1st dan and hs placed pan ams etc had a blue belt come in and try and heel hook him at the new school he opened , it didnt end too well for the blue belt

Since all the injuries I’ve gotten doing no-gi and bjj have come from white belts, yea it does. White belts tend to spaz. If I know the person well enough, their rank doesn’t matter. If I don’t, and a white belt tries to heel hook me, I’m going to retaliate with some of the hoodoo.

I totally understand if the guy does that to you! But I'm thinking about it in a different way. let's say you get choked out at a tournament. You wake up and are safe,no damage has been done to you by this "white" belt. Does it matter if he is a white belt then?

I am always open to new thoughts or old ones that have been overlooked. How do I find some legit catch wrestling info? Phone Post

Man I have no idea of good Catch teachers because I have only been at one catch seminar. That seminar was held by Chris Curtis. Chris is from England and He told me that he has a gym over there. You should do some research online, maybe you find some schools or seminars where you live.

Troll thresd, but I have to bite. You shouldnt even have to ask which is better, its obvious since CAC is so dominate in the elite levels that it has to be better.
