Black People Appreciation/Understanding Thread

No politics. Just photos and quotes from black people you appreciate. Stuff that made you think a little bit.

It's the OG so I'm sure this will devolve into racism against either black or white people. But I'd like it not to, please.

If you can't put yourself in the other guy's shoes, you're never gonna understand his message. Gotta open your mind up if you want productive conversation to happen.

"We all living in a war zone. It's not as easy as these people are making us think, that we are some criminal ass black kids with guns. It's not like that. We live in HELL. We live in the gutter. You got us stacked up, 80 deep in one building. By the time you get out your house, you strapped to protect yourself because you're living in the same community where police are carrying rifles, riot gear... the SAME reasons they need the riot hat, the riot jacket, the flak jacket, the double vest, the 9mm glocks with extra bullets, the tear gas, the mace, all of that — who do you think the police is using that against? Dogs? N*****! We fighting the SAME villains that they fighting in the street. But instead of them seeing us fighting villains in the streets, WE ALL villains..."

"[...] the same crime element that white people are scared of, black people are scared of. The same crime element that white people fear, we fear. So we defend ourselves from the same crime element that they're scared of. So while they waiting for legislation to pass and everything, we next door to the killer. We next door to 'em in the projects, where there's 80 n***** in the building. All them killers they letting out, they right there in that building. But just cause we black, get along with the killers or something? Or the rapists? What is that? We need protection too."

This dude is a legend...

Black people have made huge contributions to US culture, in terms of music, art, dance, and especially food. I know it's unpopular to focus on those aspects but a lot of the things that are truly unique about American culture were heavily influenced by African-Americans. Blues, rock, jazz, BBQ, fried chicken, Creole food, etc. The country would be a whole lot less interesting without their contributions.

Black politicians and activists have taken credit for obtaining from whites what blacks achieved on their own. This in turn has added to resentments from whites, who are offended by racial double standards and the relatively small percentage of the black population who have been able to take advantage of them.

Those who ask why blacks cannot lift themselves up by their own bootstraps, as other minorities have done, usually have no idea that this is also what most blacks have done.

Worse yet, decades of propaganda from black "leaders" have also convinced many - if not most - blacks that their advancement has been due to political activism and that an end to racial preferences and quotas would mean an end to their progress.

Blacks lose most of all by the diversion of their efforts and energies into seeking reparations that they are not going to get, instead of into the many economic opportunities that pay off a lot bigger.

Being a race hustler is a very lucrative business for people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. But such people can extort money and power from white business and political leaders precisely because it is easier to pay off a relative handful of noise makers than to be bothered fighting them.

Chasing a will o' the wisp like reparations cannot produce what blacks most want - respect, including the self-respect that comes ultimately from one's own achievements.

This is something that whites could not give blacks if they wanted to. And it is something too important to be forfeited by a futile attempt to get reparations.

100%.

Love a good natured thread. Serious.

Ill good hockey. Wille ORee, Anson Carter, Wayne Simmons, and PK Subban. All very accomplished, very well respected members of the hockey community that are doing great things.

Forget black/white. Ok Subban, 10mil gift to the children's hospital in montreal.  Fucking A. That guy is a prince, a role model, and apparently an all around great dude.

One of or probably the greatest brain surgeons ever, Dr. Ben Carson was inventing techniques in med school that are still used today. It’s sad that politics as lowered so many peoples opinions of him. He’s taught so many also.
