after shooting a few hand guns down at Insight Range in Artesia, i decided to purchase the Glock 21 .45 semi. i like the way it feel. I purchased on 12-26-08 and after 10 waiting for background check, i picked it up yesterday. I was at the range today to shoot and i LOVE IT!!
oh yeah.. paid 580 plus tax and DOJ paper work, came out to 663.50

Glocks are great guns, I own the Glockk 22 in .40.
I have a couple 1911's and revolvers to go with it.
Glock is one of the best values for the money IMO. I've had my 17 for over 15 years now.

What do you want it for?
This is how you end up with many guns. No one fits all
I have a full size Springfield 1911 in 45. Lots of power, very accurate but weighs a lot.
So when I have light cloths on I cary the micro compact 3 inch barrel 1911 in 45. But it kicks a lot and there are times its not right. So i got a bersa 380, light and small, but its not ideal in all situaltions. In the house I want more power, in the winter i can carry a bigger gun.
then I have the 357's for in the house, hiking and other times that a revolver is a good choice.
So for a rifle you might want a 30-30 lever action for deer hunting if you want, and it will work for home defense. Then an AR-15 will be great for small game and just plinking since the ammo is less than the 30-30. And for home defense the AR-15 with a colaspable stock is great.
If you buy a 357 revolver, then a 357 lever action makes sense so you buy only one ammo.
So you need a couple to meet the different needs.
I recommend getting an airsoft replica and training force on force if possible. Not going into too much debate, but imagine standing still and shadowboxing. This is akin to shooting from a set distance at a paper target.
Using airsoft realistically (not some fantasy submachine gun with 100 bbs, but a replica of your weapon loaded to it's true capacity) can very much approach MMA sparring. Simunitions are superior but require more protection and are very difficult to come by.
In my observation, the current level of 'gunfighting' for lack of a better phrase is where MMA was pre-UFC. There are certainly people training like this but it is far from the norm.
