Just looking for opinions. On UFC2, I saw one of the fighters doing bodyweight squats. What is different from those , as to going rock bottom ?
Thanks

what do you mean by "rock bottom?"
Thighs parallel? heels to ass? ass to floor?
Baz
p.s ass to floor is a joke, until I see someone do it.
I'm not sure what you're asking.
Box Squats are hugely popular among Westside Barbell devotes (read: powerlifters).
A bodyweight squat is a squat performed without additional weight.
"Rock Bottom" is a term that is used to denote the depth of a squat. Generally, "rock bottom" means "as full a range of motion as you can possibly do" also known as "ass to ankles".
In powerlifting, a squat need only be parallel --- acutally, "Lifter must go below parallel from the bend in the hip to the top of the knee"
IMO, anything that isn't at least parallel in depth "Lifter must go below parallel from the bend in the hip to the top of the knee" isn't a squat.
Does that help?

"Ass to floor" is typically referred to as an Olympic Squat, a great deal of flexibility and strength is required to do this excercise effectively. Many great Olympic lifters have done this exercise with tremendous amounts of weight
In reference to a Box squat, Mel Siff defined this as an "Intermediate velocity lift" however under practical applications it is one of the most effective Speed-Strength builders out there
