Hey guys, just wondering wat you think would happen
if they started using mma size gloves for boxing?
Good for the sport? more/less damaging for the fighters?
more entertaining? would it make boxing a more effective striking art due to the smaller size gloves?
was just thinkin about it the other night and wondered wat you cleverer more intelligent people thought!
Open fingers in the eyes will become a big issue.
a small promotion in Hawaii does it. they call their sport "XMA." with XMA they get around the State's poorly written regulatory rules, which only oversee boxing and mma, but not sports like kickboxing, XMA, etc. so, both the fighters and the promoters dont have to go through the licensing process at all.
my feeling is that if youre going to box or kickbox, use the the most appropriate and safest gear. "MMA gloves" are designed to allow for grappling...and if there's no possibility of grappling in a bout theres no reason to use these gloves. may as well just go bareknuckle.
thanks for the info patrick

hahah i was thinking the same thing...for all that ...it might as well just be KIMBO style fighting aka BareKnuckles
Kimbo would own in this area .
if you have been around pro boxing, you will see that a 8 or 10 oz glove on a heavyweight doesnt offer much more actuall knuckle padding than an mma glove. its kinda scarry really when you think about someone the size of Lennox Lewis hitting you with so little protection
kungfukid - thanks for the info patrick
no problem. lol...hope i didnt sound like a party-pooper
it would change how people defend.

so your saying kimbo would beat a professional boxer in a bare knuckle boxing match? lol
how bout jus tape on the hands..
this evolution already happened in boxing.
small gloves/bareknuckle + only punching = broken hands. so they use big gloves now.
Lots of broken hands and very short fights.
Probably most people would move a lot more, throw more jabs and land fewer punches as everyone would be more cautious about getting hit.
Don't see many fights going th distance even then...

umm no my lil padawan ...i was referring to MMA boxing in all honesty.
however since umentioned it...i believe with his skill set already obtained from being a fighter --it will/would transfer nicely into a straight art of boxing for him.
regardless he still has no other opponent better than him in MMA ( look again i said M M A) in hvwt division of UFC from a boxer style standpoint.
Fedro Shotgun - Lots of broken hands and very short fights.
exactly. Boxers break their hands enough as it is now.
kimbo actually was rumored to be heading to pro boxing but somehow the source of it on the specifics of it is unknown to me. this was way before tuf but after the seth fight..couldnt tell you what happened as far as the pro boxing issue.

Exactly. it would ruin everything and defense would go out the window. A huge part of boxing is the defense afforded to you by the glove sizes.
yeah ... and we thought Tyson fights were short... and that was with gloves LOL
Boxers throw with much more power and intent than MMA fighters (due to a number of factors). A fighters career with MMA gloves would be about 1 year before his hands disintegrate.
this is like asking for tennis matches using racquetball racquets. what's the point? you use the equipment appropriate for your sport
