Brandon Quick in Sweden...

So... The latest news about Brandon Quick. Kinda missed out on what happened to him after all the ruckus about his belt and military status etc. But in this video he wears a brown belt and teaches BJJ in Sweden. Legit now?

http://svtplay.se/v/2485147/gavledala/jiujitsu-_brasiliansk_kampsport?cb%2Ca1366518%2C1%2Cf%2C-1%2Fpb%2Ca1366516%2C1%2Cf%2C-1%2Fpl%2Cv%2C%2C2485147%2Fsb%2Ck103305%2C1%2Cf%2C-1

Give the guy a break. He says it right there in the video that he "grew up on the streets of California."

WTF is he doing in the mighty Sverige?! Phone Post

Did he use to train with Eddie Bravo? Phone Post

The valley isn't really "the streets" Phone Post

I like the mention of his military career in there, just we know for sure he's tough

^^^

Oh he's tough alright. Don't let his "metro youth pastor" persona fool you.

Growing up on the "streets of California" he must have seen some sh!t. The San Fernando Valley is no joke! --And to overcome all that...?

Massive respect Mr. Quick!

Then for a street-fighter like him to get "instructor certified in Krav Maga" and just kinda casually mention it. You can just tell the guy isn't into titles and sh!t like some other martial arts instructors.

I also really like what he said about how he likes to train people who aren't afraid to train. Exactly!!! Screw those guys who just want to "play around" and not seriously train and learn! Someone had to say it.

It kinda funny though... I mean, even though today he seems so much more "polished", I can still see that Cali street fighter in his eyes.

He's DEFINITIVELY in my "top 5" BJJ guys I'd love to punch in the face --I mean train with! --train with! Ugh, stupid auto correct, so annoying!

Wow that is a WORN brown belt...it has seen some serious mat time

Its funny since I have been around lots of TMA dorks (japanese jiu jitsu..great system, but there were dorks) since my teens and having had so many different colored belts in my life...all ranks up to black belt in three different arts.

I know how belts wear with time and I can always easily spot a belt that has been weathered.

Just sayin...

Its good to see him train in the gi. Im not crazy about his omoplata explanation. He sits up without flattening the guy out. Id block the hips, kick my legs out or sidestep to flatten the guy, then sit up.

he does look smooth in rolling. seems to have improved a lot.

^^

...and cue "the haterz". Predictable.

FWIW, that belt was naturally aged and worn by good old-fashioned hard work, sweat, bleach and fine grit sandpaper.

I AM familiar --I do it to all my belts!

Actually there was this odd Persian Karate Dojo in my area years ago. The two instructors did that to their belts. They had been bleached and sanded to "age" them.

As you well know, if you look at someone who has worn the same belt for a couple decades, it's wear pattern is NOTHING like that.

I knew someone who took his brand new black belt and tossed it into the dryer for 5 or so cycles, covered in bleach.  That chewed the crap out of it.  By the time he was 2nd degree, all that was left was the white interfacing inside.  And that was a karate belt...no grappling involved!

I think the solution for B. Quick here is for someone to alert Mr. August Wallen.  He's a legit black belt and the head of Sweden's MMA organizations.  I remember seeing his absolute WAR with Tsuyoshi Kohsaka back in the day...

See...the trick is to look at pics of the legends in BJJ...THEN duplicate the wear...thats what I did.

May I present...The 'Bustamante'

I thought that was the Sperry!?!

whitebeltchamp01 - I thought that was the Sperry!?!

LOL...thats my other belt ; )

The "Sperry" has more fraying, IIRC.

I just picked up a "Wallid" with Perma-Creases(tm) that accurately replicate years of being folded.

They also threw in a few Blud Stainz(tm) and Combat-Musk(tm) scent for free!!!

From that video "Snapple" posted, I can see that Brandon's game is very Streets of California specific.

In Brandon's defense, if that were a California Streetfight, the other guy would be dead.

I saw him compete at about 5-6 ibjjf events in the past year and he didn't fare too well.  I guess Bruno feels he would just "grow" into his brown?

Dude did let me borrow his cell phone when I was stranded at the PanAms.  I know he's done some douchey stuff, but at that moment, he earned some points back.

Snapple, I don't understand that video.  I wasn't at that event. In the first part he's competing at brown and the second it looks like both guys have purples on?? Is that right?  Story?
