Brett Jacques - Street Sambo

I have owned his "Street Sambo" series for several years and it has

become one of my favorites, due to the fact it talks about using your
grappling techniques and principles to defend yourself against multiple
opponants and various weapons attacks.

I had the opportunity to train with him at a west coast seminar this

last weekend (Water and Steel) and covered some very different and
unorthodox self defense situations.

Anyway I thought I would chime in, being that there are more

threads than usual discussing self defense. If you are interested in
learning to modify and apply your hard earned grappling skills in more
of a street wise manner I highly recomend checking out his work.

And if you ever get the chance to train with him ask him to show

you how to escape multiple attackers from a seated position (like at a
bar)! -------OUCH!

Though the "Water and Steel" camp was not an MMA camp I will give

you my impressions if you want.

Brett is one of the top Sambo instructors in the US

About the camp...........

I LOVED THE COMBAT SAMBO STUFF
We did some drills where you would be surronded by three opponants
and you would learn to recognize "push point" to push them back to
create space so you could get the heck out of dodge....

Also another drill was being confronted by two assailents and one pulls
a knife......using the "push point" you grab the unarmed assailent and
keep him off balance and between you and the "knife weilder"......It is
hard to explain just typing it down but it worked great. When you are
the one being "pushed and pulled" you are always fighting to keep your
balance and stay on your feet, while the person moving you is moving
you in the path of the other assailent. Great stuff!

Time permitting, I will give some more thoughts on my lunch break!
Thanks
Mac
