Briggs vs. Tua: April 1

Briggs vs. Tua: April 1

Thursday, February 2 2006

Comebacking former linear heavyweight champion Shannon "Brooklyn" Briggs, 45-4-1 (39 KOs), was asking for it for a long time...and now he's got it: a nationally televised fight with a big-name contender. On Saturday, April 1, at the Mohegan Sun Hotel Casino in Uncasville, CT, CKrush Entertainment and Cedric Kushner will present Briggs squaring off with anvil-fisted former world title challenger David "Tuaman" Tua, 44-3-1 (38 KOs) as part of a free preview weekend on the SHOWTIME network. "I'm so hungry for a big fight; I've never wanted it as bad as I do now. I know Tua is tough, but I'm looking for a tough fight. Tua comes straight at you and that's what I like. I'm ready to go to war," said a happy Briggs. "I'm the most exciting and active heavyweight in the sport today and on April 1; I'll prove I'm the best. Tua is going down!" Currently rated WBC #8, WBO #10 and IBF #13, Briggs is riding the momentum of a nine-fight knockout streak. Tua has been on the comeback trail as well, this fight will be just his third in almost three years. Briggs' postponed and rescheduled fight against Chris "Special K" Koval for the NABA and USBA Heavyweight Championships is now postponed again. "Koval isn't off the hook, he's just getting a stay of execution. I want to go back and knock him out after I knock out Tua. I'm thankful to Showtime for this opportunity. I'm going to put on a great show and give the fans a fight worth watching."

This would have been a good fight in 1998.

I can see Briggs winning this.

i wonder what weight Tua will show up at?

i'd bet on Briggs to win

If Briggs is serious about winning he can beat Tua.

Tua only needs to land once solidly. I dont think Briggs can last the whole fight without getting caught once. His stamina has always been a problem. Tua by late stoppage.

What is Tua's conditioning like these days? I'm guessing not too good, since they say this will be only his 3rd fight in 3 years?

yeah, last i heard he was over 300lbs. i haven't seen him lately but he seems totally uncommitted to the sport

"Tua only needs to land once solidly."

I don't know. Tua didn't look too good against Salif. And Briggs is better than Salif.

briggs wins a unanimous decision while getting knocked down a few times in the process. similar to wladimir/peter

Briggs won't run away like Wlad did.

I'll be the first to admit that Tua can be outworked and is lazy, but I've got too many memories of Shannon huffing and puffing after 4 rounds and of seeing his chin fail him to bet on him.
