Brock is Raw but Im excited

He went out there with intensity, tossed Mir around pretty easily, even trying to get out of the foot lock he drug Mir about 4 feet lol. He is still green, but given a cpl of years he will be even more of a beast than he is. Im excited for a HW for the first time in a long time. Good for Mir on getting the win, I had a feeling he would, but Im still excited to see Brock go out there with intensity

BS stoppage and restart

agreed. Brock would have won had that not happened imo

Ya i don't even care for Brock, but i think it'll be a nice addidtion to the UFC and the Division.

Brock had mir turlted up, turnin his back when it was stopped. If he woulda got a verbal warning it woulda been a ref stoppage for a TKO or Mir eating lots more shots.

"Actually Brock had a better position after the "second try"."

No, Mir was done, until Maz fucked everything up

i agree

Mir was in real trouble and when I watche the replay over and over again, it is very clear that there was only one small shot to the back of the head, only one which should have not even been brought up, maybe just a "watch the back of the head guys".

Taking a point and stopping Brock's momentum was completely BS.

Brock would not have won.

There was ONE strike in the back of the head. Relax!! Fightjunky is correct, the ref should've just shouted out a verbal warning. Ive seen waaayyyy worse things happen in tons of fights that werent even addressed. To stand them back up AND take a point away = bullshit

Lesnar is a machine..He gave up too much space...I know he was throwinf rapid fire punches and its hard to stay tight..

For every month he trained for this fight he lasted 3.75 seconds.

"WTF was Mazzaggati supposed to do? Stop the fight to give Brock a win for TKO via unanswered back of the head strikes? "

He only got hit back there once when mir turned away from the hammerfists.....95% of the time that gets a "watch the back of the head" verbal warning

Good call by Mazzaggati. Its the ref's discretion to warn, stop, or deduct a point. It doesnt make a difference if you have seen "worse." You guys would have a point if there was some kind of robot reffing each fight, but there isnt. Its a human ref, and some times a ref may give a warning, or he may stop the fight. Its up to the ref, and he made an excellent call.

Too bad you man-boys still into pro wrestling got your dreams crushed last night and now you're running for excuses. Sad...

"No, Mir was done, until Maz fucked everything up "

Uh, wow. Watch the fight again. Mir was just fine... Wow.. LoL, you're ridiculous

"but the HW division is in desperate need of talent and a guy like Brock who is fast and explosive excites me."

No one said to kick him out of the division, but we sure as hell aren't going to bend the rules and allow him to cheat by punching in the back of his opponents head. Mazzaggati made an excellent call. You guys want the refs to let Brock cheat just because the HW division sucks? Ok

"I didn't really mind the stand up, but a point deduction seemed like a fast decision, unless the commision told referees to crack down on shots to the back of the head. "

I didn't even think of that. That might very well be true.

Mazzaggati was horrible in that fight. Not only was the point reduction retarded but he was also way too slow to stop the fight. That was Mir applying that lock with all his power, Brock could easily have been hurt as a result.

"
I think people just wondered where the warning was since that is typically what happens."

Thats the thing. It doesnt matter. It is the ref's discretion. Remember when Chael Sonnen got caught in a heel hook and was screaming? The ref let the fight continue, but when Sonnen did the same scream when caught in Paolo's armbar, the ref stopped the fight. Similar situation, different outcome. The point is that it is the ref's discretion, and Mazzaggati made a good decision

"The point is that it is the ref's discretion, and Mazzaggati made a good decision"

LOL. You're joking, right?

Lesnar was in a dominant position and his GnP could very well have ended the fight there. He committed what was, at best, a minor infraction that only happened b/c Mir was turning his head at the time.

The proper thing for ANY ref to do would be to yell out a verbal warning to watch shots to the back of the head. Period. This is it.

For him to stop the fight when one guy was in such a dominant position is inexplicable. You don't do that, just like you don't break a fight when a guy has a submission sunk to warn him for an earlier minor infraction. It's made worse by the fact that he was never previously warned.

The fact that refs have "discretion" does not mean that whatever discretion they exercise is correct. There is such a thing as a ref exercising awful, fight altering, incorrect discretion. We saw it in this fight.

Horrible judgment by Steve.

That probably was a bad call on the referee's part, and as all of us know, referees aren't allowed to make mistakes. Brock might have finished Mir right there. On the other hand, if Brock had controlled his striking better, he wouldn't have hit him in the back of the head, which is, after all, a foul. Brock just went into animal mode and he wasn't thinking tactically. That shows how inexperienced he is. He reminded me of Mark Coleman back in the day. He created space and allowed Mir to submit him.

I wasn't surprised by the outcome and think that Lesnar will be a very exciting fighter to watch, which is something the heavyweight division really needs. I also thought that he was gracious in defeat and didn't make any excuses, which I appreciated.
