Brock is the Number one HW in the world via rankings, he is a champion and has defeated 3 former HW champions in his last three bouts and has not lost recently.
That being said I still think if there was a GP to determine the best HW in the world right now, I think Fedor would be the favorite. I think his skill set is varied enough that he creates a problematic match up for any individual he faces in a GP.
If a HW GP started today across promotions what do you think the lines would look like and who the favorite would be?
Fedor would break his hands on some overhyped UFC fighter's face and would have to pull out.
I think Fedor's stiffest competition would be the UFC's HWs.
I think Overeem, is a ripe matchup for Fedor and I think Fedor will play smart with Verdum next time.
Thats an accurate assessment.
Fedor is probably still the best HW on the planet.
But...Brock is now ranked #1.
It's a reasonable argument. I'm not sure I agree, but it's certainly not ridiculous.
There's really no one who could keep up with Brock. The man is a genetic freak. Also, he is the best right now.
Lipdick Jones,
Read his definition of "Best". To him, it was "who would be favored to win a GP of all the heavyweights".
I don't think it's crazy to believe that. Hell, I don't think it's crazy to believe that he'd be favored over the guy who just beat him.
I am not a big fan of Fedor either in fact I hate what his management has done with his career over the last 5 years, I just respect his skills and acknowledge the fact that he has been a certified bad ass for 10 years in the HW division.
If it was even money across the board and I had to pick a winner of a cross promotional HW GP, my money would go to Fedor and because of that I consider him the best.
I'm also intrigued as to who other people would pick if there was in fact a cross promotional tourney?
This does not mean I don't think Brock isn't the number one ranked HW in the world because he is and he deserves to be.
When putting Brock and Fedor's fights next to each other, one could definitely make a case for Fedor retaining the #1 spot - Brock was taking heavy, heavy shots from Carwin, Fedor simply made a mistake and took zero damage except for some small ligament damage to his elbow maybe...even more fair would be to have Brock and Fedor tied for #1, Brock's fight told us a lot more about him than Fedor's did
Smith1234 - ^^^ now Fedor's loss to Werdum is at least in some way better than Brock's win over Carwin? I think I've heard it all now.
Agreed.
Fedor lost there is no denying it and Brock won his fight and finished his opponent.
Brock deserves to be the number one HW.
Brock took far more of a beating and was this/close to the humiliating GnP stoppage, Fedor got caught in a triangle one minute in, therefore having them tied for #1 is not a crazy proposition, when you factor in records and all that. Not saying that Brock winning was somehow worse than Fedor losing, but it looked bad for him for a couple minutes there

Fedor is probably still the best HW on the planet.
But...Brock is now ranked #1.
Werdum is #1
he defeated the greatest HW of all time
he defeated Overripe
he defeated the legendary monster Bigfoot
he would easily defeat Brock, it wouldn't even be fair

Right, so if Brock tapped right away like Fedor, he'd be #1?
^correct Brock tapped like a type writer against Mir.
Brock is a wrestler, him tapping should be more excusable and accepted considering he is trying to take the fight to the ground.Fedor on the other hand is just an idiot, not only did he get subbed inside a minute,he got choked and armbarred which either could have been the reason for tapping,on top of that he escaped the innital sub attempt only to land himself into a second one.
Werdum didnt have an 8 fight streak with 1st round subs like shane did ko's either.
Shane is on another level then anyone Fedor has ever faced
Tapping to Mir in your 2nd fight after demolishing him for 4 minutes is not nearly as bad as tapping a minute into a fight when your 32 fights into your career.
Almost getting ko'd by carwin, having problems with carwin doesnt show a weakness in his game,it proves what we already knew.Carwin is a beast standing and Brock isnt.BUT it also proved that Brock has heart and is very hard to stop which is the real issue at question so imo we learned 2 things about Brock this fight,1 we already knew, his standup is subpar
2 we didnt know,he can take a beating, come from behind and win.I was skeptical myself that he might have the BJ Penn great fighter when fighting ahead gene but he definitely does not
D_S_A - Werdum is #1

I think Werdum has an argument to be One for sure but I think he is Ranked Two. If Werdum avenges his loss to Arlovski I think he could be ranked 1. He won't ever have a chance to avenge JDS or Big Nog but if he gives Arlovski a beating like Brock did to Mir than he for sure has a right to be ranked number one.
I would doubt he is in the top 5 in terms of favorites for a GP though.
now take into consideration he was almost dead a few months ago and unable to train for a long time, lost a bunch of weight,he had no tuneup or comeback fight and it makes what he did much more impressive
Its not like his standup is going to get worse,it can only improve, its not like hes ever going to be in as bad shape as he was in this fight, its not like anyone in the hw division hits like shane or has the td defense of Shane, lets face it
If Shane couldnt beat Brock under all these circumstance, who could?
Nobody,he is here to stay.Fedor fans united pretty impressively on these anti Brock threads to keep Fedor relevent, even to the point of arguing him tapping to the #12hw is more impressive then having to come from behind against the #2 and only undefeated hw who has been in there with good fighters.
Face it,the comic book, cartoon like pride days are over,no more zulu's,mark hunts, randlemens etc for Fedor, yea he might get an ex sams club employee every once in a while but he has to fight itlease DESCENT competition every single time he fights now
Half his fights came against sub 500 fighters,i give 0 credence to his impressive record
99 percent of you couldnt name half of Fedors opponents, probably 80 percent of fedors opponents without going to frickn fightfinder,it really is a joke of a resume he has compiled
top wins were nog and crocop,in a 32 fight 1 loss career your best wins are against nog and crocop?
