Bully Beatdown

Some of my take on the brawl last night - I wrote it because I didn't see a whole lot of people seeming to look at it the same way I did. Thanks for reading

In addition to being a StrikeForce middleweight, Jason "Mayhem" Miller hosts an MTV reality show called "Bully Beatdown," and Saturday night he seemed to mistake a real-life situation for his scripted side-project...

Good news - Miller's show has been picked up for another season. Bad News - Miller had to be picked up off the canvas Saturday night after the brawl he started

That's basically how I see it. Mayhem was way out of order, and got pulled up on his bullshit.

Loved it Elias...

You completely left out the fact that Jake Shields not only pushed first, but threw the first punch. I'm a fan of your articles, but this one is extremely biased. How about the fact that someone had to let Mayhem in the cage, not to mention he was probably sent in there by someone.

I would say your dislike of Miller shows through in your biased article. You're a damn good writer, but I think you are wrong on some of the stuff you wrote here.

Kid, I really fucking like Jason a lot, actually. It sucked seeing him act like that. I've interviewed him multiple times before and think I did pretty favorable articles. The guy has a sick game and seems cool. he just messed up last night, imo

Elias, I'm a big fan of your writing.

I think you are wrong on this one.

There is zero objectivity in this article.

I disagree with your article. What you need to ponder is that whereas Miller's actions may have been inappropriate, they did not warrant a violent reaction. Pushing away like Melendez did is illegitimate violence and will get any normal citizen in trouble.

Agreed. Unfortunately there is an obvious bias in this article and does not include all the facts from a neutral standpoint. Mayhem was wrong without question, but it did not warrant what happened in that cage.

Perhaps hoping that "Mayhem" won't act like a buffoon in the future is overly optimistic. But for his sake, he should at least keep it to his easy opponents and the chubby kids that appear on his MTV show.

LOL Elias is correct. Mayhem is a tool and got owned

Some interesting and good points from everyone on this thread, thanks for reading. By the way, I'm doing some guest blogging over the next month or so at this place - the Chicago Tribune's Martial Art's blog for their ChicagoNow.com site. It will often be the type of stuff not usually seen from me.

This is not an event report or profile, it is absolutely an opinion blog piece.

Please keep on leaving comments. I'm going to read all of them and try to respond to as many as I can as well.

I've read some of your stuff before and always enjoyed it, but this was disappointing. That article downplays every horrible thing the Cesar camp did and exaggerates the dumbass move(s) pulled by Miller.

"Miller shoved his way through his teammates, coaches and into the camera frame and the champ's face"

"Mayhem put up his dukes and barged towards Melendez. Yes, Melendez is thirty pounds lighter than Miller, had fought about five times the amount Miller had that night..."

"...including welterweight champ Nick Diaz and UFC lightweight Nate Diaz, didn't think it was right that Miller had pushed their friend Shields and then went after the much smaller Melendez and they decided to jump in and defend them as well."

I'll still read your stuff because I think you're smart dude with killer skills but I really wish you would have been more objective. I know it was an opinion piece but come on...

Mayhem jockrider alert siren soundS

Not at all man, I think they're all idiots

siren continues

Mayhem got what his ass deserved. You wanna act like a jackass? Well, in life there are these things called consequences and it just might cost you. Don't expect everyone to be okay with you acting like a smart ass attention whore.

Mayhem vs Diaz, make it happen, no need for Mayhem/Shields at this point

Trash talk would be amazing

there is a line of professionalism that mayhem intentionally crossed, then the CG crew crossed it even further. assume that coker told him to go confront him (which he says he didnt) mayhem still does everything entirely wrong. and had he done things right, waited for jake to finish be respectful then ask for a rematch would have have got jumped? no.

people want to act like the second he set foot into the cage he was jumped. mayhem started the ruckus, and the CG crew were all too happy to go along with it.
