C-wheel Grd Pass in Old Judo Book

no half guard techs in older books that I've found at least. Since it breaks the pin, just getting it seems to be good enough for the older practitioners who made the books.

There is a half guard in Judo, you often see it in the Ne-waza phase when a Judoka is attempting to achieve an unbroken hold, if you are caught in a half guard, the referee will call toketa or matte and stand the fighters up, Ke Ho Jeon used to armlock opponents from the half guard position quite often. The half guard in Judo is generally used to defend osaekomi attempts, it is not developed as the recent BJJ half guard position.

i've seen some half-guard techniques, although mostly passing and defending, in some old school judo books that were published in germany back in the 80's.

taking your opponents gi and feeding it around the head to control your opponent is what was shown.

kashiwazaki's book, osaekomi, has a lot of great reversals and guard passes in it. it has a good history of the evolution of modern-day judo and he also gives props to helio gracie for developing his own style.

"there is no half guard in judo "

false.

and there are 1/2 guard techniques in "Dynamic Judo" Andre

the groundwork that is shown in the cannon of judo by kyuzo mifune is awesome. every grappler should take a look at it.

Mifune's book is back in print now too.

Mifune says some really profound things in that book, Every grappler should read it.

here are two pages from Vital Judo Grappling Techniques by Isao Okano.

I been taught this sweep, with more detail and better techniqe in BJJ, this is in a Judo book published in 1976.

" Mifune's book is back in print now too"

RoninGear, which book is back in print and is in english or Japanese?

The Canon of Judo by Kyuzo Mifune is availablbe in english at almost every major book store, has been since last year. Mifune was the greatest Judo technician ever, his throws were effortless and his groundwork was extremely fluid, he also filmed his art of Judo in entirety, kata, self defense, randori. The photos in the book are actually stills from the film. You can purchase the film from Amazon.com along with the book. A true must see, he was 75-76 years old when filmed and he actually lifted a 300lb guy onto his shoulders and threw him forward, from a standing kata guruma no less. Two thumbs up!!!

DOH!

My instructor, Marcos Flexa (carlson bb) LOVED those videos...

"MY FRIEND THOSE MOVES ARE GOOD!!!"

I wish someone would reprint vital judo and Dynamic judo. They would sell a lot of copies I think.
