C6 Z06 Nurburgring lap time.......

Thought I would post this for those who are interested, there is a very hot rumour right now that the new C6 Z06 has put down a lap time of 7:43 on the world famous Nurburgring.

Who'd you hear it from?

I'll ask some friends of mine. They might know. lol

Mark

Heard it from a guy "in the know" at a Corvette forum. It seems to be legit especially since Team Corvette is testing there as we speak, there have also been a bunch of leaked photo's of the runs.

Nurburgring is a very high speed course, but I would not say that it is mostly straight.

A lap time of 7:43 is slightly faster than a Lamborghini Murcielago.

Best Nurburgring viddy I've seen (outside of F1) is ol Hans Stuck fuckin' it up in the M3 GTR.... It is a very technical track. Not like Suzuka or Monte Carlo, nor is it a burner like Monza or Canada. I say it is a GREAT mix of straights, slow curves, fast ones and such.
Here is a walkthrough with Jarno Truli (back when his hair was short). I don't know how much different the test section is from the test track, but I'll bet it's close.

I know exactly what vid you are talking about TOki, that is one of the best videos I have ever seen.

There are still a lot of rumours circulating about the existance of a 600+ horsepower Super Vette, with an engine like that it will be getting very close to Carrera GT territory. I really hope GM makes this vehicle, but if they do go forward with it they need to make it really stand out and do something really bold with the body.

cough

BlueDevilsayswhat?

Mark

I heard other rumors about GM and Fiat working with a new fuel injection system that is making 30%-40% more power in the same engines.

Mark

fiat? wtf?

Are you sure the rumor wasnt that GM is working with a new fuel injection system and fiat is just there watching and/or getting in the way?

Fiat still owns Ferrari, do they not?

GM owns portions of Fiat. Ferrari and Maserati are different. I believe they are owned under a separate holding company of some sort. Also, I believe a group of banks own a portion as well. (I think)

Mark

"I know exactly what vid you are talking about TOki, that is one of the best videos I have ever seen."

Agreed!! You see him blow by the white Porsche as if it never was there? It's a long viddy, but SO worth seeing one of the best drivers ever work it like a pack mule.

the evo FQ 400 could beat the murcielago on the nurburgring.

Most claims of nurburgring supremacy should be taken with a grain of salt as most of the cars making these hot laps are not straight production cars but pre-production cars, for the most part.

I'll bet more than a few ringers have been sent there.

Example......I drove a few pre-production porsche 944 turbos and one did a high 12 second quarter mile though it looked like the car was stock under the hood.

Now the FQ400, giving away 30mph top end would not fare well at the ring against the murcielago with a good driver.

That's great about the Evo, but this thread is about the C6 Z06.

Grain of salt or not, this is an amazing car that is going to be the performance bargain of the century.

Another thing to consider is that this is with runflat tires, throw a good set of tires on this bad boy and say bye to another few seconds.

I just wish I had the coin to afford one, it is a hard pill to swallow realizing I probably won't own one of these until I am middle aged.

Are you sure they ran runflats?

Nurburgring has 143 corners, hardly staight

And many of those corners are high speed leading to a long straight.

30mph top speed advantage at a track with only 4 very low speed corners favors the car with top end.

It's not like the lambo corners like a truck.

Now don't mention the vette in the same breath as the carrera gt because a journalist managed a 7:32 in it.

Also remember that for every 600hp super vette, there will surely be a 900hp super porsche.

Here's an address of a evo doing the ring.

On Top Gear (UK car show) on saturday they had the woman who drives the m5 ring taxis (and allegedly knows the track better than anyone in the world) do the ring in 10.08 in a Ford Transit van. Serious skill and courage.
