Cain Velasquez cut by WWE

Cain Velasquez is no longer under WWE contract.

Dave Meltzer confirmed on this morning’s Wrestling Observer Radio that Cain Velasquez was released from his WWE contract as part of a wider range of releases and furloughs that took place earlier this month.

Velasquez, who defeated Brock Lesnar to win the UFC Heavyweight title, made his debut for the company on the October 9 edition of SmackDown, confronting Lesnar. This eventually led to a match for the WWE title at Crown Jewel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where Lesnar submitted Velasquez quickly with a kimura lock. Velasquez had not been used by the company since.

Before his run with WWE. Velasquez worked several shows for AAA, including at Triplemania XXVI, teaming with Cody Rhodes and Psycho Clown in a winning effort against Texano Jr., Taurus and Killer Kross.

WWE is pretty dumb. AEW is gonna get some good talent...greedy ass McMahons

WWE had to make cuts due to downturn in business because of Coronavirus scare.

AEW has got to be hurting as well.

Not really is the weird part.

Live gate means little to WWE/UFC and has for sometime.

2020 is supposed to be a record breaking year for revenue with their cray TV deals even with rona and network subs are through the roof thanks to rona.

Popular therory is Vince is going to take a loss thanks to XFL/Rona so to offset that he’s cutting to maintain that record setting revenue.

Velasquez didn’t seem to have the it factor in pro wrestling. No mic skills, no physique and not a skilled worker. Maybe in the future he will come back. He should just return to mma

Velazquez could barely even walk to the ring during his debut. Got pretty quickly squashed in his one big match and hasn’t been seen since last year.

Velasquez was paid for a one time deal with undisclosed money for putting Brock over. Due to their history, it made sense.

WWE did the exact same thing with Rousey. They hired her short term to put over Becky Lynch. They are simply clout transfer agreements.

These narratives of him being fired due to budget cuts are frivolous.

Any Chance he goes to Bellator??

That would be awesome. He needs to be fighting, not pro-wrestling. The toll on the body is probaby worse if he was to do the wrestling grind 300 days per year. He could have some good fights in Bellator and command big money.

This is not correct.

Cain sucked.

Didn't have mic skills so couldn't communicate directly with the crowd.

Didn't have any charisma outside of the mic - just turning up as the former UFC Heavyweight champ in your jeans and T-shirt won't cut the mustard in the wrestling crowd.

Didn't spend enough / wasn't given enough time to learn the craft. Couldn't throw a fake punch and looked sloppy in there.

Injured his ACL and was out of action and training for some time.

Generally, resembles a potato.

All of these things worked against him and Vince knows his trade well. Cain wasn't going to amount to anything with little to draw the fan base to him and his well-storied knee injuries were an alarm bell. Fast-tracked the story line to getting him in there with Brock again, to settle the score and then cut him loose.

Hope Cain made a good income from it and is able to invest in his future wisely and isn't taken advantage of.

His decline will always be a sad point in MMA history - albeit, he had his time under the spotlight.

I remember seeing in a clip on YouTube it looked as if he was hobbling to the ring. It’s a shame he can’t return to fighting in Bellator or Rizin where he could get back on the EPO and have a little career resurgence. Plus some interesting match ups for him in Bellator.

lmao - the only thing accurate in this post is the time-stamp.

Every other word is completely wrong.

He okie doked them good and proper.

“I can wrestle you guys!”

shows up on one leg

Cain would probably never have lasted long in wrestling for something that is often described as fake it sure seems to cause a lot of injuries.

A contrarian opinion is fucking worthless. Put your money where your mouth is and start spitting your apparent "facts" that you are so in the know about.
