On Friday April 27th, 2007 Professional Muay Thai comes back to Calgary after a one year hiatus. The Calgary Amateur Kickboxing & Muay Thai Association in conjunction with Mike Miles Promotions presents 'Conflict in the Casino'. Calgary favorite, Trevor 'T.N.T.' Smandych steps back into the ring in his hometown in a professional full Muay Thai rules bout. The bout will be sanctioned by the World MuayThai Council and the Calgary Boxing and Wrestling Commission. There is also negotiations on the return of former Canadian Professional Muay Thai Great Chad Sawyer stepping into the ring for this event.

The remainder of the card will feature amateur full Muay Thai rules bouts featuring Calgary favorites including Scott 'Pitbull' Clark, Jesse 'Smiles' Miles, Sandra 'Heart Bastian, 'Nasty' Nate Smandych, Lindsay Rae, plus a few other supporting names. The amateur bouts are sanctioned by the Canadian Muay Thai Council - Amateur.

Opponents for these athletes will be announced in the next few days and features athletes from England, Ireland, Thailand and the USA.

TEAM CANADA vs. TEAM IRELAND

The first two signed bouts of 'CONFLICT IN THE CASINO' include two Canadian athletes squaring off against opposition from Ireland under Amateur Full Muay Thai Rules.

'NASTY' NATE SMANDYCH (Canada / Miles) squares off against Irish Champion (63.5 kg.) DARREN 'DAZ' CASHMAN (Ireland / Horgan) in a 5 round International Prestige Match at 140 lbs. Smandych last match on March 17th saw him defeating the USA's extremely tough Oliver Bradstreet in a modified Muay Thai rules bout, and now he looks forward to another international (intercontinental) bout against the tough and highly competent Irish athlete. This promises to be a first class scrap with both athletes wanting to battle.

LINDSAY RAE (Canada / Miles) originally was to face an opponent from South Dakota, USA. The American athlete has pulled from the event. Consequently, Rae has his first bout against an athlete from another continent on the 'CONFLICT IN THE CASINO' under card. BARRY FARRELL (Ireland / Horgan) has stepped up and both athletes will meet in the Superwelterweight Division (154 lbs.). As a comment to his new opponent and in typical humorous fashion, Rae's response has been "the Irish are always after my lucky charms!" All tom-foolery aside, Farrell will not be coming to Canada to joke around, and the Canadian truly knows this as he puts his nose to the grindstone. The International Prestige Match will be contested over 5 rounds of 2 minutes.

The event will be hosted at the Deerfoot Inn and Casino and like all the Muay Thai events in Calgary over the last few years, the event will be a complete sell-out. In order to get into the event and watch the bouts, all spectators must be 18 years and older. The last event at the Casino (February 17th) was sold out 2 weeks before the event. Tickets will go on sale on the 30th of March! TEAM CANADA vs. TEAM USA

Two more recently signed bouts of 'CONFLICT IN THE CASINO' include two Canadian athletes battling against athletes from the USA.

LINDON CHAMBERS (Canada / Miles) steps into the ring against THOMAS ANTKIEWICZ (USA / Nurse) from the highly touted 'The Wat' Camp headed by Kru Phil Nurse. The bout will be a 3 round International Prestige Match at 200 lbs. Kru Nurse's athletes are excellent at their Muay Thai and this promises to be a big test for the Canadian Chambers. Chambers last fight was a month ago where he stopped his opponent in the third round. Both fighters intend to prove that heavyweight athletes are exciting and talented to watch. Expect a big war from these two.

PETER ARBEAU (Canada / Miles) also steps into the ring to fight an American athlete under Full Muay Thai rules. His opponent at 'CONFLICT IN THE CASINO' is BRETT HLAVACK (USA / Nurse). Hlavack is also from 'The Wat' Camp and trained by Kru Phil Nurse. The athletes will meet in the Supermiddleweight Division (167 lbs.) for 3 rounds. Arbeau has built his fight record by always taking fights at the last moment (usually asked to substitute with 2 weeks or less notice). He won his last battle on 10 days notice against highly touted American Patrick Greene. He has also taken a fight at the end of March on a week's notice. At 'CONFLICT IN THE CASINO", Arbeau gets a chance to prepare for this fight with proper notice. Going by Hlavack's reputation, Arebea is going to need as much time to prepare as possible.

The event takes place at the DEERFOOT INN & CASINO in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Tickets go on sale in the beginning of April. They can be purchased at Mike Miles Muay Thai (Lwr. Lvl. 1210 - 11th Ave SW / Calgary) or by calling (403) 244-8424. As has been the case with previous events, this event will be sold out! Get your tickets early! A CAKMA and Mike Miles Promotion.
