Calling non-trollish UG'ers (RE: Anthony Johnson)

possibly he drank brazilian tap water, got the shits, pukes, and a doc gave him an iv drip. many fighters use those to rehydrate after cutting, they gain  a ton back quick.

If that was the case, he should be fired.  Anyone not living under a rock knows not to drink that shit, especially if you're not a native.

Yeah, that is not what happened though (unless you think they are lying about the UFC doctor on the record????)

That can and probraly did happen and the UFC doctor is still telling the truth. The weight cut caused the illness needing fluids to bee added back into his system.

For the OP, Rumble had to do no strenght training at all and keep the muscle off in oreder to cut to 170. At 185 he was able to let his body grow to where it wanted to making it neccesary to cut close to the same amount of weight.

Just spoke to manager of Said Rumble got ill three hours before weigh-in and UFC doc gave him tons of fluid

Further said was 191.5 when he awakened this morning and would have made 186 with no problems if not ill.

Do fluids really blow you up by 7 to 12 pounds? Hm.... Phone Post

Depends how much they gave him. If he can drop 20 pounds in fluids, is it hard to believe he can gain 7-8 pounds from being pumped full of fluids while extremely dehydrated?

Dodge135 - Rumble should be fined 100% for not trying to make weight, and then he should be fired for the lame excuses.

He tried so hard it made him sick. The doctor had to put the fluids back in.

You know if a UFC doctor stepped in and added fluids, fucking up the whole fight, then he must have been pretty bad off.

"Got ill" is a pretty vague diagnosis.

blood work and other tests normally take a couple days...believe me i just dealt w/flu,scarlet fever, infected tooth and respitory infection in the last 3 weeks( not all by me)

2 cups (16 oz) of water weighs a pound, so drink a gallon without pissing and you've gained 8. Not hard to believe that would happen taking IV fluids.

I suppose one could speculate that a tough cut caused the illness, but how tough of a cut is it when he normall cuts to 170? He was saying he was fit and healthy at ~210 three weeks ago.

I think is is very unlikely that a guy who normally cuts from 200+ to 170 got ill trying to cut 15 less pounds than normal.

Easily. What's a gallon of water weigh? 8 pounds or so, If he got sick three hours before weigh ins, and they began administering an IV, compounded with some orally consumed fluids he could have easily consumed 3 quarts(6+-lbs.) of water in three hours time

I used to get upset when fighters missed weight, but since paying more attention and learning what fighters have to go thru I can understand if Johnson became ill and dr's gave him fluids then that is most likely the cause for the botched weight cut.
These guys have the cut to a science but taking in fluids on a day your supposed to be cutting kills any fighters chances of making weight especially hours before weigh in, from what I understand and have learned.
Vitor putting up his stipulation and rumble accepting it then both should be weighed fight night IMO to see what both really weigh hydrated. Reason is Johnson (if ill) still having to cut gives Belfort a leg up on hydrating and resting. While it may not seem like a lot 6 lbs is going to weaken Johnson even more if he is ill.
It does suck tho this guy can't seem to make weight he would be scary good fully hydrated with only a minimal weight cut allowing him to step in the ring near 100% IMO. Phone Post

I would bet it was not 15 less pounds.

I'm sure Rumble had to work hard to keep muscle mass off when he fought at 170.
At 185 he let his body add on the extra muscle making the weight cut close to the same amount.

This really sucks for vitor. Even if he wins tomorrow, people will say he fought a sick dehydrated man. Phone Post

i am surprised nobody has praised Vitor about this, it's a classy move and i am not really that much of a diehard Belfort fan, i just respect the history, skill set, and highlight reel he's been able to put together, i think this move defines warrior spirit

and to be honest, if you were a bleed red white and blue American (or red and white if you're a Canadian poster), and you were a fighter, and you had only fought once in your home land, i think you would agree to anything when you're ~24hours away from a fight in a pivotal stage in your career

I know one thing from personal experience and that is iv fluid has a ton of sodium chloride in it.  You want to talk about a major shift in weight, 2 or 3 iv bags will jack you about 6 pounds and make you keep in a ton of fluid because of the salt.  You sip water for a bit, not much is coming back out for a little while.

Where did you hear him say that?

http://cagejunkies.com/2012/01/sources-say-anthony-rumble-johnson-was-30-pounds-over-two-weeks-ago/

Maybe he caught a food bourne illness from eating down there. Sucks for all involved. Phone Post

Delorian, this is his third time he's failed to make weight.

I imagine the reason he got sick was from trying to cut so much weight so quickly. I imagine since he was going to be cutting less weight, he'd be safer coming in heavier before this fight and mis-judged.

Before the Hardy fight, he was 230 pounds eight weeks out.
