Can Hioki take Aldo down?

Not gonna lie, UFC 144 was the eye opener to how great Hioki can outclass people in the grappling game. Takedowns to mount, amazing position advancment and great Submission transitions. Obviously would be trouble for Aldo on the ground, but its getting there is the problem.

100% of fights start on the feet, and Aldo has excellent takedown defense. Do you think Hioki could get the fight to the ground? Phone Post

I think Aldo will be too explosive for Hioki. However, Hioki seemed a lot stronger than he had in his previous fights.

I would wish for Hioki to get it to the ground just so we can finally see Aldo's mystical ground game.

That is an incredible mismatch.

He may be a 6-1 dog, and I'd still take Aldo all day. Phone Post

The way Aldo stopped Mendes' take downs makes me think Hioki has very little chance at getting Aldo to the ground. Phone Post

Agreed.

You mean previous fight? Hioki was back on form against Bart. The Roop fight was the one off.

We saw Aldo on the ground against both Hominick and Florian.

Well, no doubt Mendes is a great wrestler but Hioki is not Mendes. Hioki is taller, has better striking and also utilizes the clinch more.

But yeah, tough to see anyone beating Aldo let alone getting him down.

Not sure how Aldo is compared to Sandro on the ground but Hioki did also dominate Aldo's Nova Uniao team mate on the ground.
