Can You Own/Carry Automatic Firearms In The USA?

On another thread there's someone saying that some of the weird tiki torch fruitcakes that were protesting in Virginia had automatic rifles. The poster said he saw it on some vice documentary.

Up here in Canada automatic weapons fall under the prohibited weapons classification and very few people can own those. We can't even get prohibited weapons licences here anymore. Anyone with them now are the last people to have them and when they die that will be that for prohibited licences.

I didn't know you were allowed to own automatic rifles down there. I'm not very educated on the American gun laws/2nd amendment rights, so I thought I'd ask you geniuses.

Are you allowed to own automatic weapons, and are you allowed to open carry? Or is this a case of someone not knowing the difference between a semiautomatic and an automatic?

Yes, in fact you get one free for opening most cheeking accounts at a major bank.  Well, you get a choice of full automatic machine gun, flamethrower, or an 81 mm mortor.

Scary black rifle paranoia at it's best. AR-15 is a semi-automatic version of a fully automatic rifle. This is 99% what those people had. You can however legally own a fuilly automatic rifle but they require signifigant government checks and fee and usually cost upwards of $10,000. These hillbillys don't have that kind of cash.

Carry laws differ by state. I know you can open carry handguns in many states but not sure about rifles.

No you're allowed semi auto weapons. Automatics are illegal and carry serious prison time. In NC you're not allowed to carry any firearm period if you're participating in a protest

Like he said, you can.... But the faggot who watched Vice probably just saw an AR

You need have a special federal licence. Automatic weapons are not something the average person can easily own legally. Plus they are really expensive since the transferable weapon needed to be registered before 1986.

Lots of reports you will hear on the news are that people are seeing automatic weapons. Its typical ignorant liberal hysteria.

I heard a caller during the Virginia protests saying she saw people with automatic weapons and they smelled like alcohol. As if the dumb cunt could identify an auto from a semi.

Uninformed humans use the term interchangeably.

Yes, in free states.

You can also make a semi-automatic AK fully automatic with a twist tie, but that's illegal.

I own a few NFA Class 3 items, but no full autos as I can't justify the associated costs.

While you can own fully auto weapons if you go through the process it's just people not understanding the difference and list anything that looks scary as automatic weapons.

The typical AR is a civilian version of the M16, which is not fully auto. Semi-auto and three round burst.

I know what an AR-15 is. We can get them up here, they fall under the restricted classification.

That's kind of what I assumed was being talked about, but wasn't sure what your guys' laws were like regarding the whole semi-automatic vs automatic thing was. Especially when it came to your open carry laws.

So firearms laws and restrictions are regulated from state to state and not federally? Or are there also federal laws that must be adhered to as well?

There are separate federal and state laws. State laws like California are considerably more restrictive. No way for civilians to own autos, suppressor, SBR's, or newly released handguns.

Our gun laws in Canada are ok, imo.

Yes, but no retards are getting them because you can't buy a new cheap automatic weapon, they have to be pre-1986 so they are $10,000 and up.

You must find a dealer with a Class III FFL as they're the only ones who may deal in NFA weapons (machine guns, silencers, etc.) and select a weapon that was registered in the NFA registry before 1986 (this only applies for full-auto, silencers and AOW can be brand new)

You must make your application to both the federal gov't and your local chief law enforcement officer, both must approve.

Pay the $200 tax stamp

Buy really expensive gun.

The largest impediment is that the NFA registry was closed to full-auto in 1986, therefore only LEOs or Class III FFL's may legally posess a post-86 full auto. Because of this, the price of pre-86 full-autos is very high (typically $10K and up).

In other words, you can own an old machine gun.

Says no retards are getting them.

Two different retarded sides of one protest turn up armed to the teeth every time

I have no problem with our gun laws. I'm not complaining. They could loosen up the restrictions on where you can shoot restricted firearms and handgun transportation, but they won't so I live with it.

I own many many firearms.

We're about to get bent over a little more with the import stamp they want to put on guns though. That one is just plain stupid.

And amazingly, there was no violence from the side that was "armed to the teeth"

I agree.

I wanted to get my handgun license but I didn't want to keep up my fire arms range membership.

Since I usually shoot at the farm they usually won't let you get the travel permit for something like that.

I mostly plink clay targets or use the shotgun to shoot skeet etc.

Cost prohibitve and lots of hoops to jump through.

Off-topic, but: Canada, as restrictive as the laws are, does have some things available for their citizens that we don't in the U.S.-like Norinco M14s (M305) and stuff, which are banned from import in the U.S.
