Can you take a shot before a fight?

Nick Diaz fought Silva while getting high before in the MGM bathroom. A guy like Cowboy though, he drinks like everyday but still has decipline to not fight even with one beer. When it comes to training camp, lots of dudes get high.

The video was removed so not sure if there is a source still; but legendary dan Quinn snorted a bunch of stevia and took a bunch of hits off a marijuana pipe as he walked out to the fight all in film.  He won the fight and started yelling I smoke pot and eat like a fucking pig everyday and i still won or something crazy.

I was working a fight in so cal and one of the fighters showed up for doc inspection day of the fight, clearly, with a few in his system. Needless to say, his fight was pulled right quick.

OP, something almost all MMA fans don't know... before your fight after you are checked in, you can't eat or drink anything unless it's commission approved.  You can only have water, checked by AC, and fruits such as an apple or a banana.  That's it.

I knew a fighter one time that really craved caffeine before his fight so I had to go out in the casino and sneak a Red Bull in my underwear to backstage for him.  I give them credit but there are loopholes .  You could easily slip someone pills or liquid, but you never know if you're getting drug screened until the end of the night at Post fight medical.

Wow. That's easy to believe. They gotta be vigilant of everything.

Not always enforced and alot of times they cant, you have commission people taking fighters to the restrooms and watching guys wrap hands, going out to the cage, they cant see everything in the back when there are a ton of guys.

I have been in the back eating pizza and drinking MT Dew and they never said a word, now I am not a fighter but any fighter could have grabbed a slice from me if they wanted.

^^My posts are about fighting in general not the UFC.

pcuzz - I was corner man at a fight in Missouri and saw a fighter snort something I thought might have been cocaine.

I can see that you could get away with it, if you got caught though your not only going to get booted your probably going to get suspended by the AC.

I fought amateur in Missouri and one of my opponents was doing coke in the locker room before one of my fights. One of my buddies was in his locker room and let me know after the fight. It didn’t really bother me, but it was ironic that his nose wouldn’t stop bleeding after the fight lol.

Good way to have a heart attack imo

This. All commission personnel are not created equal and diligence varies from show to show. My last event, I was asked to do the final taping of the gloves for all of the fighters out of my corner because the person from the commission didn’t know how to. Pretty wild. I won’t divulge the commission but it rhymes with CSAC…

John L Sullivan used to do a shot between every round. No time limits, had hundred round fights. That alone would KO any normal man.

To be fair, they used to drink vodka in the tour de France to numb pain, especially lactic acid. While your reactions would be effected its probably not actually a bad idea if you're a  guy who like to stomp forwards and throw bombs..

Yes you can take a shot before a fight,  you can do lost of things ..  but usually like in everything in life there  are consequences

Depends if it's sanctioned or not. I've been to bars that put on cage fights and had people from the audience filling in for fighters that didn't show up. Never ended well for the guys finishing their Long Islands

Just wondering. Probably a stupid question, but it might take the edge off.

Use of alcohol and other recreational drugs like cannabis are prohibited in competition by every regulating body I can think of. I know a few guys who used to drink before fights in the pre regulation days - calms nerves, dulls pain, etc. That's my it's prohibited.
