33 CHL Players Named to Final Selection Camp for Canada's National Junior Team

Toronto - Hockey Canada and the Canadian Hockey League today announced the roster of players who have been invited to attend Team Canada's final selection camp for the 2004 World Junior Hockey Championships. Thirty-three of the 34 players who were invited play in the CHL.

"The Canadian Hockey League is very proud of the tradition of excellence that we have developed with Hockey Canada for our National Junior Team program," said David Branch, President of the CHL. "The young men who have been selected to compete in the final selection camp represent the very best Canadians that the CHL has to offer and we wish them all of the success that theur hard work and determination brings. We are also very proud of the coaching staff and support personnel who come from our leagues to support Canada's aspirations for a gold medal at the World Junior Championship in Finland."

The roster of players includes 16 from the Western Hockey League, 10 from the Ontario Hockey League and seven from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. All of these players participated in the RE/MAX Canada-Russia Challenge in November with the exception of Ian White of the Swift Current Broncos, who was selected to play but was unable to participate due to injury.

The coaching staff for Team Canada also comes from the Canadian Hockey League. Mario Durocher of the Lewiston MAINE-iacs is Canada's head coach along with assistants Dean Chynoweth of the Seattle Thunderbirds and Jim Hulton of the Kingston Frontenacs.

The final selection camp runs from December 11 - 18 at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.

No Brule or Jeremy Williams from the WHL. I understand Brule as he is just a 16 year old and doesn't get the attention, or have the stats, of Crosby. Williams is either second or third in the league in scoring though and is a 19 year old. Tough break for the kid as this would have been his last chance. Anyways it looks like we will have a young team but I'm sure we'll be competitive.

Just imagine if we had all of our players back from the nhl though. Wow, would we have a stellar lineup.

Can't believe they let locke go to, the guy leads the CHL in points last year, and is doing good again this year on a half assed ottawa team, put the guy with the calibre of players on team Canada and he will score many points, i don't see why they wouldn't want him

Imagine all the rookies playin in the NHL went back to play, we would kick some major ass
