He's like the current day Oscar. He's not as good a fighter but just in terms of excitement and drawing power.
That knockout was ruthless. Jerry Jones and Gennady Golovkin are at the fight and Jones has cleared a date for September 17th. Hopefully it happens. I think Golovkin paints Canelo's face the same color as his hair. 
He's a vicious striker, wouldn't want to be in there for 12 rounds with him. 
I think GGG is the leading man. Canelo does have a huge fan base though.

Alvarez is already a crossover star. Golovkin is getting there with the apple commercial and Jordan shoe deal. Right now I look at him as a cult fighter and an attraction fighter.
judomf - Canelo is not the leading man - GGG is ....Canelo has a way better resume. Golovkin is my favorite but his resume as a pro isn't that great. Honestly Khan would be Golovkin's best win.

Canelo has Cotto,Lara,Trout,Perro,Khan,Kirkland,etc that's a really strong resume for a 25 year old.

GGG's last ppv against Lemieux only did 150,000. I'd agree with OP in that Canelo is boxing leading man because his ppv numbers are big regardless of who he's fighting
