Cannonier is set for a potential No. 1 contender fight.
Former UFC middleweight title challenger Jared Cannonier will have the chance to prove himself as the next man up in the middleweight hierarchy.
According to reports, Cannonier and surging contender Roman Dolidze have agreed to meet at the December 2 UFC Fight Night event*. ESPN*'s Marc Raimondi was the first to report the news of the Cannonier vs. Dolidze fight.
Cannonier served as the backup to Israel Adesanya vs. Sean Strickland at UFC 293 earlier this month.
Cannonier’s last fight was a victory over Marvin Vettori back in June. Before that, he took home a split decision win over the current UFC middleweight titleholder Strickland back in December.
Cannonier is searching for another middleweight title shot after a loss to Adesanya at UFC 276. He has won back-to-back fights since the unanimous decision defeat.

Cannonier will face a tough test in Dolidze; who has won six of eight UFC fights. A four-fight winning streak was snapped against Vettori at UFC 286 back in March.
Dolidze has defeated the likes of Jack Hermansson, Phil Hawes, and Kyle Daukaus during his UFC tenure. The former WWFC light heavyweight champion is a force to be reckoned with inside the Octagon.
A venue and location for the December 2nd UFC Fight Night has yet to be announced. A bantamweight clash between Deiveson Figueiredo and Rob Font has also been added.
