Cardio and weights?

What is the best way to do cardio and weight training? I used to only do either strength programs or just circuit training for getting fit, and never much cardio except for grappling and wrestling.

I am now willing to add interval training (through running) to my regime. I was wondering if running in the morning and workout out at night, or vice versa, or running than working out, or working out than running, etc…what combination would be best?

My goal is to get more muscular and stronger while shredding fat and getting ripped.

Also, it is for function and partly for looks too. I want to get down to 6% bodyfat.

crossfit combines both strength and cardio efforts in all their workouts, plus they are short and they work.
