Carlos MAchado side control escape

The pulling thing might be a real lightbulb kinda detail

He has been focusing on the importance of "pulling" and connection a lot the past a lot the past few years.

I agree with Hunter V- Carlos is a gifted teacher not just because of how close to the source he is, but because he has worked to improving his teaching. What impresses me most is how good he is at teaching his upper belts to teach well, every time I go out to Dallas I am impressed with how much I learn from his black and brown belts

Im going to have to watch this a couple of times

My comments as per the "Bottom side control instructionals" thread:

"Well... some people have a move so well down that they can seemingly "break the rules".

"My general principle is to keep my elbows close to my core. I rarely expose the space between. "

"Even when you tuck that elbow inside the left hip. The overall arm position leaves you pretty susceptible to modified scarf... Also to an arm triangle capture, then they move to the other side."

"...but the concern is that the other arm is being exposed as it reaches."

Basically what Carlos is doing is controlling the "Cross Face Arm". He didnĀ“t allow the arm who ususally goes for a crossface to get his position and that allows him to play around with other stuff.

From my experience that is a pretty good concept you donĀ“t want anyone to crossface and crush you because he can also just hold you and take away your chances of movement.

I used to train under a Carlos BB and he always talked about how Carlos always stayed in a "ball" and never saw him flattened out. That vid remined me of that.
