CCC's Mount Rushmore might surprise you

Former UFC bantamweight and flyweight champion and Olympic wrestling gold medalist Henry Cejudo spoke recently with Helen Yee, and was asked who he would put on the MMA Mount Rushmore.

“I’m not even part of the GOAT mountain to be quite honest with you," said Cejudo, as transcribed by Farah Hannoun for MMA Junkie. “But even when it comes to combat sports, he’s a part of that mountain. But in my take, it’s Demetrious Johnson, Jon Jones, Anderson Silva and GSP … and I would put GSP No. 4.”

“I’m not part of the GOAT mountain when it comes to the sport of mixed martial arts, but I will say this, in the GOAT mountain of combat sports, I remain No. 1. Then I would put Khabib [Nurmagomedov] with me, I would put Daniel Cormier with me, and I would put Fabricio Werdum because these are the people that have done something in combat sports and that’s it.”

For his part, in a recent, exclusive interview with Jordan Ellis for Low Kick MMA, Demetrious Johnson said the people should decide.

“That GOAT discussion is all about the public," argued Johnson. "The only person that I’ve actually seen who kinda fights for that spot or argues about it is Jon Jones. You know, Khabib mentioned he wanted to be there. At any given time, I have never asked to be in that position, people put me in that position, right? That’s when I think it’s more important, when people put you there. You can’t walk in and be like, ‘I’m the greatest of all time’ in this sport of Mixed Martial Arts – you can’t just do that. You have to let the community decide.”

“Obviously, my merits that I’ve done, my 11 consecutive title defenses, the submissions I’ve done, the different I fight, granted I could sit there and argue with people, but I ain’t got time to argue. If you think I’m the greatest of all-time thanks. If not, I’m not gonna shed one tear about it.”

“My kids, when they get older if they’re like ‘well Dad how good were you?’ ‘Well, I was one of the greatest to ever do it.’ And then they’ll be like ‘well who else was great?’ And I’d be like well Jon Jones, GSP, I could rattle off a list – Khabib Nurmagomedov. I could just rattle off a list, we were all great. We all shined in different aspects of Mixed Martial Arts but I can’t sit here and pinpoint. If I was to sit here and pinpoint, I’d be like Jon Jones. And then you’ll get ‘well Jon Jones had all this s*** and I’m like ‘well that’s your opinion and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.”

So, UG, who's on your Mount Rushmore, beyond, of course, the obvious.

Royce, Fedor, Jones, GSP

#1 Royce - Can't forget the roots and it can't ever be replaced. Impact never will be duplicated that he made. The biggest statement and paradigm shift the martial arts world had seen in 1993 more than any other time in history and since.

#2 Fedor - Took the evolution to the next level. Ground fighting particularly ground and pound was taken to a level maybe not seen again. Fights vs Nogueira & CroCop still most impressed I've ever been by a HW and hold up today. More impressive than any of his other fights to me. 10 year unbeaten run at HW while undersized at 220-230lbs when he fought with no weight limit against Pride Champs, UFC Champs, K-1 Champs, Olympians, 7footers and near 400lbers and all while never changing the expression on his face. Unheard of. Humble GOAT.

#3 GSP - Played the game the right way and only fighter at that level to ride off into the sunset. Became an international superstar and even fought Captain America on the big screen! A true Champion. (please don't come back and ruin it!)

#4 A and B Jones or Anderson - If PED failed tests don't exclude them then it is a toss up between them. Their Title streaks are the most impressive by UFC standards. Mighty Mouse would be here but the level of competition from Jones and Anderson is above his. Khabib only defending 3 times excludes him IMO. Jones did come in oversized and at a time when his opponents were aging and the division was actually shallow since the names on paper weren't prime or the lackluster defenses weren't as impressive (I'm looking at you MWs Anthony Smith and Thiago Santos and Apple Valley LHW Legend Dominick Reyes) but you can't deny his succes. Anderson did what Jones didn't do too and went up in weight and made the LHWs look like easier competition than his MW defenses. Also was spectacular in his Prime finishing from many ways.

#4 C Sakuraba - If PED failed tests do exclude the others above then Sakuraba makes my list. Never was martial arts as innovative and as exciting as his run up to that point. Looked forward to every fight of his and his highlights were the best at the time as far as creativity. Not only was he the most creative martial artist I had ever seen up to that point in time but he was what would be considered a natural WW today's standards fighting natural MWs, LHWs, and HWs and he had success. Ballsy and gutsy Man. Did it all with the honor and respect of a true Legend and like GSP a humble and warrior.

Really close to the above posters lists, EKPOGI and graciesrule.

In a stand up only fight, who wins, Cejudo or Helen Yee.

Granted Yee clearly has a missive height advantage so not really a fair fight but Cejodo has a tad more MMA experience tbf.

He left out Fedor…

As for Triple C or Khabib, they need to remain active. Now they are in the “could have been GOAT” category.

GSP might have somewhat “retired early”, but he had one of the most impressive runs to get to the belt, and then defended it many times. Plus avenged his two losses.

Cejudo and Khabib retired way too early for GOAT mentions, not because of ability levels.
