"I'm super stoked and excited for the fight," Cerrone on Monday told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). "I cannot wait."
Waiting's what he and plenty of fans have been doing in regard to the matchup, which very well could determine the next in line for the UFC's lightweight title. It's looking more and more like champion Benson Henderson will next defend his belt against former Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez this spring. If that's the case, the Cerrone-Pettis winner could be next.
Cerrone believes Pettis, who has been out for nearly a year thanks to surgery and injuries, hasn't done himself any favors by not being more active.
"The dude's been running scared for two years," he said. "He doesn't fight. You can't just not take fights. Three fights in two years."
I absolutely LOVE Cowboy, I consider myself a hardcore fan of his, but spewing bullshit just to talk shit is just ridiculous... and wrong. The kind of wtf statement you wish you could retract afterwards.
Maybe he willingly ignores his opponent's legitimate recent history or whatever, but this headline gave me a frowny LOL.
I got money on Pettis because I genuinely want him to take on Benson for a second time, but I'll be more than happy to see Cerrone take it. One thing's for sure, nobody is scared of anything.
I'd like see Lauzon get a rematch at some point too, the first was a good showing for Pettis, but I feel like Joe had a bit of an off night too.
All respect to Lauzon, but I don't think he even had a chance to have an off night. That fight ended in under 90 seconds. Pettis finished him with the first strike he landed.
