Certification for Referees, Judges

USKBA CONTINUES MOVE TOWARD HAVING ONLY "USKBA CERTIFIED OFFICIALS" AT USKBA SANCTIONED SANCTIONED EVENTS

It has been a program that has been in the works for over two years. It started in Ohio. It moved to Rhode Island and then to Rochester NY. Now it is coming to the metropolitan New York area. The "USKBA Officials Certification Seminar" Program was first held in Ohio. Along with USKBA OHIO Representative Jim Cofer, it was determined that Ohio would be our 'test' state. It was agreed that all USKBA Sanctioned events in Ohio would have only "USKBA Certified Officials" at these events. This includes Officials as; referees, judges, timekeepers, scorekeepers and kickcounters (Full Contact Kickboxing).

The "USKBA Officials Certification Seminar" Program has been a tremendous success in Ohio. USKBA RHODE ISLAND Representative Charlie Sampalis brought the "USKBA Officials Certification Seminar" Program to Rhode Island and held the first seminar there. USKBA Promoter World Gym Rochester (Dan Lucas) brought the "USKBA Officials Certification Seminar" Program to New York and held the first seminar there. Rhode Island and New York are following in the success of Ohio. The main purpose of the "USKBA Officials Certification Seminar" Program is to lay a foundation for all Officials at USKBA Sanctioned events. An emphasis is placed on honesty and integrity, USKBA Rules and Regulations and how to enforce them, and paperwork needed to fulfill the requirements. The seminar is an interactive one where participants will put to use the material that is covered. The goal is to have all USKBA Certified Officials understand and utilize the USKBA requirements for officiating at USKBA Sanctioned events. This will translate into quality and fair officiating that will be the same at all USKBA Sanctioned events anywhere*. The end result will be that the fighters, promoters, fans and the action sports involved, will benefit by higher level of officiating. Along with the "USKBA Officials Certification Seminar" Program will be additional seminars that focus on officiating at various action sports (Full Contact Kickboxing, Thaiboxing, San Da, Continuous Contact, Submission Grappling, MMA).

*The exception will be when a State Athletic Commission regulates the sport

On Friday, June 17, 2005, at 7:00 pm, the next "USKBA Officials Certification Seminar" will be held at "Fit 2 Fight Club", 17 Vestry Street in Lower Manhattan NYC. The seminar is open to all who want to be referees, judges, timekeepers, scorekeepers and, if warranted, kickcounters. The seminar will cover San Da and Thaiboxing. Based on advance registration, it may also cover Full Contact Kickboxing. Any idea how long this is going to run?

A typical USKBA Certification Seminar is scheduled to run 3 hours. There are factors that alter the time element such as; number of participants, which action sports are covered, question and answer period, etc. I believe we will be able to keep the seminar at 3 hours.
