At the very least, Gil's basic style of coming forward and grinding certainly isn't what I would consider a showcase of serious athleticism.
And Jake is a stud on the ground, but standing he is unorthodox, awkward, and stiff, which again doesn't seem to represent someone who is very athletic.
Again, I'm talking "very" athletic. Of course I consider both these guys serious athletes, but I wouldn't put either of them in a list of very athletic mixed martial artists.
People wouldn't be talking about this if the camp didn't get tons of hype from it's fans and get voted as the best mma gym at the World MMA Awards.

Also, Terrel lost to Tanner and Nick lost the interim title shot to Condit. That is 0-4 for Cesar.
Alpha Male is also 0-4 in UFC title fights.

He's a great fighter and I'm excited to see how he does with a step up in competition, but MMA is def a sport of "what have you done lately" and he's won 2 fights in the last 2 years over unranked opponents. Both were by decision and many think he lost one of them.
Kawajiri (who is now a featherweight) and Aoki are good wins but I'd be very curious how they'd do in the UFC.. Neither are ranked any longer for good reason.
Of course MMA is about what's been done lately, but someone being out on injury isn't something that's punished, either.
If Pettis wanted to fight Bendo again, he'd have that fight. He thinks Aldo will be an easier fight. That's not Gil's problem.
Given the complexion of the LW division and the absorbtion of SF, having the SF champ fight for the title is completely justified/deserving.
I believe Pettis asked for that shot after Aldo beat Frankie and GIl had already been told he had the shot at Ben.
Also this is Cesar's fifth fighter to go for a UFC belt. So far none have made it. That is not good if Gil loses. I actually think Gil is a much tougher fight for Henderson than Nate was as they are vastly different. I ahve said for a long time the best chance they have at a UFC belt is Gil. His takedown centric grinding style could be what puts a halt in Bendo's run. Frankie took Ben down but wasn't able to keep him there or do much with them. We will see if Gil can.
