Champs and star's forgotten fights

I knew Overeem submitted Vitor in PRIDE because he guillotined Igor and Vitor back to back in the GP and that blew everyone’s mind at the time but what I don’t think I ever saw at the time or knew about was that Vitor and Overeem rematched in Strikeforce.

Overeem lost to Werdum in May in PRIDE and a month later fought Vitor in Strikeforce and this time won a UD.

Vitor’s most recent fight at the time was Cage Rage and it was six months prior to the Strikeforce fight. Like Overeem, Vitor returned to PRIDE for his next fight.

Anyway there are not many fights as big as someone like Vitor vs someone like Overeem in a main event that I didn’t see live or see a replay of from that era.

Just never saw this fight and really don’t think I ever knew it happened.

Was it boring? I’ve never even seen it mentioned.

FRAT Recap

I was at that fight it was the 2nd event in Strikeforce mma. Here’s what I remember.

The best fight on the card was the Gilbert Melendez vs Clay Guida fight for the Strikefore LW Title right after Guida upset Thomson at their 1st show. Excellent fight that I definitely need to rewatch since its been years. Remember Gilbert putting it on him but Guida hanging tough for the whole fight.

The Main Event was a letdown given that both Overeem and Vitor were the most gifted fighters on the Card but I just remember Vitor not engaging and falling to his butt kind of like the Sakuraba fight. It was cool to see them in person but we expected way more at the time.

The Best part of that fight if I recall correctly was Alistair came out to the Trey Parker and Matt Stone Team America movie theme which was great.

The other disappointing thing that night was they fucking forgot to lock the cage door during the James Irvin vs Bobby Southworth fight lol. Also looked forward to that only for it to be over immediately when they crashed through the cage beginning of the fight and James got injured.

Cung Le had a nice KO on the card over Brian Warren.

Tyson Griffin had a somewhat early stoppage TKO imo over Bang Ludwig but it probably was going that way anyways.

WWE wrestler Daniel Puder got an armbar over a scrub. I remember training at the time and seeing him at the gym. He did absolutely no training and was there with 2 bombshells lol.

Old School UFC Fighter Eugene Jackson got a good KO on the Undercard and Josh Thomson also fought.

There was also a nice moment of silence in honor of Ryan Bennett who had just passed away before the event.

Fun event and times.
