Cheick Kongo: 50% of fighters on PEDs, if not more

Riddum.com: What can you tell us about your UFC 120 opponent Travis Browne? What are his strengths?

Cheick Kongo: His strengths are his boxing and his BJJ. He came to the UFC without any major flaws. He is the type of opponent that has everything to win by beating me. It will be my job to push him beyond his own boundaries and to stand in his way.

Riddum.com: You certainly did not miss the steroid allegations surrounding Chael Sonnen that came under the spotlight these past few weeks. Dennis Hallman stated that at least 50% of MMA fighters take PEDs. Nate Diaz also said that everybody was on steroids, you should be surprised when somebody DOES NOT test positive rather than be surprised when someone DOES test positive. Is it safe to assume that a lot of MMA fighters take steroids to give themselves an edge?

CK: 50%, if not more ... What can I say, other than we need to stay away from all of that. It's not easy to put things into perspective, especially if you believe that you have a disadvantage from the get go. For some athletes, it's hard to hold up physically and mentally- the pressure, the obligation to stay on top - everything pushes you to take steroids. For me, PEDs aren't the solution. Taking PEDs jeopardizes your health and it's cheating. I am a fighter; I owe my victories to my hard work, my training, the fact that I push myself beyond the limit, the sacrifices I make to a life almost entirely dedicated to sports. Nothing else. Stay away from the needles. You can succeed without them.

I hate to hear PEDs being so widely used in MMA. The Athletic commission needs to take a stronger approach before we see PEDs take over the sport like it has in MLB.

I bet it's higher especially at the top level

 he's probably right...

someone made riddum.com a website?

I know it was a GSP thing he said for rhythm, but is that really a word?

it's awkward to stand there and say oh yeah atleast 50% of us are on PED, oh but not me of course.

Im guessing kongos in that "50%" of PED using fighters Phone Post

he must be counting the new guys that still have the steroids are the devil perspective.

It's not only MMA, every sport you can think of should be included.

It makes me laugh when the 'anti steroid in sports' wave rolls in!

Its like, through out history we've been fighting wars for everything but then one day people suddenly start complaining that we're killing people... "you shouldnt have to kill people in war"!!!

LOL

No shit everyone is on performance enhancing drugs.... its professional sports!!!.... millions of dollars are riding on there performance, WTF ya think theyre gonna do????

"Cheick Kongo on 50% of fighters' PEDs"

I owe my victories to my hard work, my training,

and illegal groin strikes.

The one thing I always hate about these blanket statements is that Cheick is in no position to speak about the drug use of anyone outside of his immediate training environment, yet I'll bet you he would claim that HIS team mates don't use, just everyone else.

How the fuck would Cheick Kongo know what is going on at TriStar, or Chute Boxe, or AKA, or Yoshida dojo or Red Devil?  All he should be speaking about is drug use at his own training environment.

Ugh not this fucking argument again.

Funny how the fighters that come out and say this stupid shit are supposedly NOT one of the fighters they are referring to taking PEDs, well everybody besides Hallman because he's been busted before. But the guys like Jeremy Horn and Nate Diaz and now Kongo can make stupid and most likely misinformed claims and people believe it without any evidence whatsoever. It's just "he's in shape, more successful than me, has more money, has more fame, has a win over me, is good looking so lets try to make up some bullshit to justify why I'm less of a fighter than he is".

Again, I'm not saying there aren't fighters on PEDs, but show me some hard evidence that "well above 50% of all MMA fighters" are taking them. Just sounds like some childish bullshit.

Danas not gonna like this-the french gorilla is in trouble Phone Post

Horn has trained and trained with most of the name guys in the sport; I think he's got a pretty good idea.

Once youre at the top level making good money you can afford shit that wont come up in piss tests, especially when you know exactly when youre going to be tested.

Other than HGH what has a fast enough half life so you wouldn't come up hot?

(Stuff about BALCO)

Edit: Forget it, it looks like some of them tested positive at times, and not at others.

Either the tests are flawed or somebody was taking cash to look the other way.

MOST of the named guys in MMA? Really? So during his time training at MFS, fighting once a week pretty much, and now running his own gym how does he have the time to go to the dozens of top gyms around the world and come to a conclusion that most MMA fighters are using PEDs? How is that possible? As much as I like Jeremy his claims are either sour grapes or wishful thinking. And he hasn't trained with a tenth of the total of MMA fighters in the world. It's just silly and anybody trying to defend him because he's a nice guy with a good rep need to stop.

i just felt a case of deja vu. crazy stuff.

but i'm not surprised at what kongo claims.
