Chuck Liddell will be released if he doesnt retire

Mad Xyientist - So we may never get to see Liddell vs. Tommy Morrison?!

"Ay, yo Tommy....I didn't hear no bell...."

don't these guys get catscans before their fights? Alves was pulled at the slightest sign of a problem I assume Chuck gets the same medicals so they should tell the commissions if he's still fit to fight or not. If he wants to keep fighting I say let him you only live once and he deserves to do what he loves for as long as he is able.

How exactly does he deserve it?  How does anyone deserve it?  Dana White pays him for his services.  His services are no longer worth the end result.  What terrible thing did he do that makes him deserve it?

He lived.  A terrible and beautiful combination if you are lucky.

Are catscans compulsory in MMA?

LiveFromThe7x7 - This makes me respect Dana White even more.  He could make several more million off of Liddell.  Instead, he won't pimp out his friend.

Liddell has people who are willing to pimp him out.  Once Liddell stops fighting, the golden goose stop laying those golden eggs - and there are so many people willing to break Liddell if it'll give them one more omelette. There is a time and season for everything.

Liddell was the greatest.  He had his reign.  All great things end, and retiring now does nothing to his legacy, and it preserves his long-term health.

Voted Up.

Mma_Gawd -  Dana is being a true friend instead of a promoter this time around.  I respect that.

WTF with every one saying Dana's a good guy here? he's just not an idiot. Yes, he could make some more $ off Chuck but that fact is counterbalanced by the shit he'd get for allowing him to fight. so instead Dana plays the "i care too much" card... and people are biting?

Dana is a scumbag business man who would let his Mom fight Grendle if it was a sound business decision. nothing wrong with that, but lets see this for what it is.

Dana being savy, not compassionate.

Liddell would benefit from moving to a new training camp with new coaches! Im sorry but John Hackleman does not cut it anymore!! The sport has evolved so much since Johns days and Chuck needs to adapt and evolve with the sport!

and so goes the broken record of dana and his lack of credibility to anything he says

"He can not do it again. It will not happen again. This is a guy I care about and respect and consider a friend.... Anybody who's been in the sport long enough knows you used to be able to hit him in the face with a crowbar and you couldn't even wobble him. And that's not the case anymore. It's not worth it to me..... I guess if he asks me to release him, I'd release him. That's not what I want. But he'll never fight in the UFC again."
April 2009. well over a year ago

"You're never going to see Chuck Liddell on the canvas again, I can tell you that," pronounced White. "He's done. Tonight was the end of an era. One of the best greatest in this sport fought his last fight tonight."

"He's a huge superstar, and we could still sell lots of tickets (with Liddell)," White said in April. "But I don't care about that. I care about him. I care about his health, and it's over, man. It's over."
/me predicts next response from hugger "yeah but THIS time he means it"

I agree with LiveFromThe7x7 and Mma_Gawd in regards to Dana's heart being in the right place about Chuck. But, Chuck is a true fighter and it is going to be hard for him to stop.

If Chuck fights ever again it should only be against guys like Ken Shamrock, Mark Coleman, or possibly Tito Ortiz: Master's Division type fights. I think he gets ass-raped if he goes to Strikeforce and fights their top guys, unless they have him fight Kimbo or Hershel Walker. I could see them signing Kimbo for this fight and it would draw huge.

This is really a tough situation for Chuck. He is a warrior, but his health is a real concern here.

Why would Chuck want to continue?

He clearly isnt for tne UFC anymore. If I were Dana I might as well tell him you can go on but not in the UFC anymore.

Be straight about it. If he comes back and decides he retires bring him back for commentary haha :D

Chuck "Can you release me, strikeforce has a fight for me"

Dana "Wanna headline UFC 122?"

release Chuck? The face of the UFC for the past 10 years? and possibly let Strikeforce get him, fucking dumb ass move by BLAF IMO

Does this mean that Dana will talk shit about Chuck when he is working for Strikeforce?

Am I the only one who thinks these kinds of issues are more respectfully handled between the principals and behind closed doors than through the press?

agreed, but then Dana couldn't capitalize on his "good guy" press as this thread demonstrates.
