UFC president Dana White said Sunday that after a lengthy conversation with “The Iceman Chuck Liddell Saturday, he would not be surprised if Liddell retires from mixed martial arts competition.
But White, Liddell's former manager and a close personal friend, speculated that Liddell may simply no longer have the passion to fight. White said he didn't see the fire that Liddell used to exhibit and that it resulted in a flat performance. At the post-fight news conference, Liddell deferred questions about his future. He said he would go home and think about whether he would fight again, which in and of itself was newsworthy since he'd never had given an indication before that he was remotely considering that option.
i guess the "rockstar" lifestyle caught up with him, as they said during the PPV couple hours before the fight he was laughing and joking around on a radio show hosted by Pharrell. Quite depressing to see him lose the passion, if that is the case. Silva seemed pretty upset about the results must have wanted to fight chuck bad. Personally i think he should go one more fight versing Wanderlei Silva
It's sad but it may be time for Chuck to hang them up. My suggestion would be for him to take some time off like Randy did and get healthy and re-focused.
It takes a real fighter to hold his head up after a loss, imo. It almost seems that if Chuck can't be #1, he doesn't want to be a fighter at all. I think he can still be at the top of the class if he wants to, and there are still plenty of big money matchups left for him.
Chuck wouldn't take Jardine down he's to proud of striker and that's what may have costed him the win. Feels too accomplished as a striker and doesn't seem to want to show off his division one wrestling skills.
No i dont want to criticize a fighter I liek but he always said how he would fight for as long as his body would let him. He says he feels like he's in good shape, he needs to take time off and add more to his gamestyle. He has a wrestling background, use it now, he just enjoys using his heavy hands and trying to be the most exciting fighter. Chuck needs like 8 months off, no way he should force himself into retirement cause of two straight losses.
He lost by KO to the best fighter in world, and then losses a close split decision and now he wants to retire? What a pus. He just needs to get home and take a little break and realize he can still fight. He had 2 bad fights thats all.
is where it is today.....IS...the world gives up on him? With a 20-5 fighting the top contenders no one is giving up on him so long as he regains focus he will bring back the KO's
Take a lesson from Randy and retire and then come back. The fans absolutely love comebacks and he could probably use a rest and some time to build the fire back up.
Chuck has been one of the busiest fighters in the sport. But, he's nearly 38 years old, and father time is starting to catch up with him (I should know, he and I are only a couple days apart in age).
Chuck just needs to TAKE A BREAK, fight a little bit LESS OFTEN, focus on getting his fire back, and LET HIS BODY HEAL. Some time off will get him recharged, and in six months from now, Chuck could be ready - both mentally, emotionally, AND physically - to come back and shake up the whole 205 division, all over again.
