How does footwork vary from clinching to long range striking. This is probably a question Khun Kao can answer. Does it change? What are the basic's in the clinch to stay balanced?
The main rule-of-thumb for footwork is that the closer you are to your opponent, the wider your stance should be. Also, you should square up to your opponent more.
Whenever your fighting, you should "stay on your toes". When your punching and kicking, you don't necessarily need to be LITERALLY on your toes, but your weight should be on your toes. However, when you move into clinch, you MUST stand on your toes.
You also need to stay light on your feet. If you allow yourself to 'root', you will be thrown. You have to be able to shift your feet easily to prevent being tossed about.
