Trainer Diogenes Assahida knew Anderson Silva when "The Spider" was doing Vale Tudo in the 90s. By the mid 2000s, Assahida was cornering Silva in the UK's Cage Rage. He cornered Silva for his first UFC fight, and when he took the title from Rich Franklin.

In short, Diogenes knows Silva. And he says he knows why Anderson Silva lost his UFC middleweight title to Chris Weidman at UFC 162.

“Lack of motivation,” Assahida told ESPN.com.

Assahida was seen less frequently in Silva's corner the last few years, but that changed for this fight, with the coach spending six weeks with "The Spider" for this camp, working primarily on reaching the optimal mental state.

“Since he started training in the beginning, he’s always worked hard to be the best, to be the champion,” said Assahida. “In my personal opinion, I don’t know how much it matters to him to be the champion anymore, but it matters to win this fight.

“I think for a few fights, he’s had a little bit of a lack of motivation. He was tired. His mindset and his focus now look good. I’ve been with him since the beginning of this camp and I am very confident.”

No, I'm pretty sure it was lack of conciousness that made him lose.

I believe that. He has been on top forever, lack of motivation, I can believe that. The pressure, burn out...
Same as GSP.

i thought he lost cause he closed his eyes, must of thought he was The One

the fight hasnt happened yet and they're already making excuses?

Awesome gif. Phone Post 3.0

Weidman beat Silva @ 162 and he's going to do it again tonight. I don't really care about Silva's motovation excuse as Chris was beating Silva in the 1st fight and would have won either way imo. Silva has met his match in the younger, more explosive and stronger Chris Weidman and after tonight I see Silva taking a hiatus ala GSP and re examining his career after this setback. Silva would still beat every other MW in the UFC, but Chris Weidman has his number and will always be a bad matchup for Silva ....... he is like a younger, stronger Sonnen with great wrestling and much better striking and chin. Gonna be a great fight either way, but I've got the champ by 3rd round tko via G & P.
