Cobrinha Guard Pull???

Anyone else think the negative point given to Cobrinha in his ADCC finals match against Rafa Mendes for "pulling guard" was a little suspect? If I remember correctly, Rafa shot in for a takedown, had Cobrinha's leg, and then Cobrinha jumped guard as he was being taken down. That should be scored as a takedown for Rafa, not a guard pull (although there were no points being given for takedowns, because it was in the first part of the match, there WERE negative points given from the beginning in the finals). I wouldn't say that qualifies as a "guard pull" by Cobrinha. It's not like he just sat on his butt, he was being taken down and got to guard...am I missing something? Was there another guard pull that I'm not remembering?

I agree with you.

Raf's coach went completely mental!

"IT'S A TAKEDOWN! REF! REEEEFFF!!!"

He obviously agreed! Phone Post

Stupid iPhone. Sorry for the double post. Phone Post

I just saw it once and I could be way wrong but, I thought it was when with about 1 or two minutes left Cobrinha just clearly sat to half guard and actually came decently close to a sweep. The commentators didn't point it our because it is so normal in regular matches but it was pretty late in the game and he just casually sat to half. Again I could be way off but I was watching for it because I already knew the result of the match.

Ill have to watch it again. Hmmm Phone Post

On a picture of Cobrinha discussing the points to the ADCC people after the match

Marko Leisten-Janne is my purple belt and have ref ADCC events 5 years. He knows rules for sure and had to remember there was 4 referees who agree for -1 point. We look that on video and referees make right decision.

I'm not necessarily disputing the ref's call.....I just couldn't remember if there was another instance other than the one I described previously. It's entirely possible I may have missed it, given I was trying to watch two matches simultaneously.

It was a full guard pull off a single leg if I remember correctly... Phone Post

If that's the case, it was a takedown, not a guard pull....

I'm not sure how far Rafa had it in, and if I remember the single leg wasn't quite in as Cobrinha was too fast! Phone Post
