UFC Featherweight Cole Miller appeared on Monday's episode of Ariel Helwani's The MMA Hour and offered pointed criticism for judging in MMA.

Miller went into his fight with Andy Ogle at UFN 30 with only one win in his last four, and thus desperately needed a win, which he secured in short order. However, Miller disputed the unanimous decision loss to Manny Gamburyan, and the split decision loss ot Nam Phan.

"I've kind of been up and down," said Miller as transcribed by MMAFighting. "But I've only been up and down because of what some 50 and 60-year-old judges have said about my fights. If you actually went back and looked at them, as far as I'm concerned, this is four wins in a row."

"I thought I won that (Gamburyan fight) and so did the media. So did everybody, in fact; Dana White, Lorenzo Fertitta, everybody came back and told me what was up. I read all the play-by-plays from the media. They all said that I won the fight and that I won every round of the fight, so as far as I'm concerned, I had momentum going into this fight.

"These [officials] want to say that I ‘lost,' but I'm the one doing all the damage."

"They're not even qualified to be making the calls they're making. That's kind of disgusting and that's really unfortunate in our sport, because it changes the whole landscape of our sport. When you have unqualified people judging mixed martial arts, it changes the way that mixed martial arts is actually fought, because fighters are now adjusting their styles to please people that don't know anything about our sport.

"Then coaches are training their fighters to please these people that don't know anything about our sport. Right? And people want to think, ‘Oh, he's just bitching. He's just complaining because he hasn't won these fights in a while.' Look, you can keep all these decisions. I'm a martial artist, and I walk out with my head held high. I fight my kind of fight.

"I love this sport. I really do. And I want to see it make progress. I don't want to see it regress. With the judging in mixed martial arts, and how coaches are coaching the fighters, and how fighters are manipulating and molding their styles to please people that know nothing about MMA, it makes the sport regress. That's really unfortunate, and that's something that I've been seeing for a long time, and it really makes me sad."

What do you think UG? Is incompetent judging changing the play of the game in MMA?

I know that the Judging has been sketchy, but it's funny how he brings it up after they scored it correctly for him.

I think he's 100% correct. We've seen the point fightig trend, the takedown and blanket trend, and even guys openly admitting to their opponents during fights "Hey man, I'm not moving, I've gotta win this fight." So who do you blame?

Is it fighters playing it safe to keep their job? If wins get keep you in the UFC then you'll do anything to win right? Well who determines whether or not you win if you don't finish a fight? Judges..... So to ensure that you win a fight you have to please these judges and perform the way they consider winning. Which, in my opinion, has been absolutely retarded.

I wouldn't say he's bitching at all. When you work that hard and win a fight, only to have it stripped by some idiot that doesn't have a clue what he's watching, it fucking sucks. It's like completing a big project at work and somebody else getting credit for all your hard work. And that's something to be legitimately upset and concerned about. He's just drawing more attention to the problem that everyone knows exists.

Well said Cole, 100% spot on. He articulates the exact reason why MMA is going downhill instead of exploding into the mainstream sport it should have been long ago.

Post in here, Cole, so I can VYTFU

Thanks for the support on this issue everyone. This is something I want to see a big change in. Not for myself. But for fans and younger fighters coming up in the game. Keep martial arts in mixed martial arts. Phone Post 3.0

I know he's correct. I was just perplexed by the timing of the comment. Usually you're supposed to complain right after they score a fight incorrectly, not correctly. I'm sure you can understand my point.

While I agree with everyone's point of view the judging (and scoring system) should be addressed, I don't think it's hurting the sport overall.

Let's be honest, we've had how many robberies this year alone? And how many fans have said "okay, that's the last straw, I'm never watching MMA again!" Maybe ... 5? It may hold back gamblers, sure, but as we see in boxing, even after a ridiculous draw in the Canelo-Mayweather fight, the next PPV Jr. is in will still sell like gold.

Yes, it's a problem, and it really sucks for fighters to lose a fight everyone believes they won, so I can empathize with Cole and the others who've been directly affected, but it's not the downfall of the sport.

When was the last time you saw the loser of a decision get a post fight interview? How's he gonna complain if he doesn't get the mic? He won this one, but that doesn't mean the problem isn't still there. You gotta make some noise when you get your 15 seconds of talk time.

No doubt. But I never see the Judges get any credit when they do get it right. I hear a lot of criticism and agree with a most of it, but you still have to give credit when they get it right and I don't see any of that.

Why should they be given credit for getting it right? That's their job.

Why? They are doing a job just like the judges. Why are judges so sensitive that they need to be patted on the back for doing their job properly? Phone Post 3.0

No pat on the back needed. I'm just saying I've never seen a fighter criticize Judging after they get the call right.
