I fought in this tournament on Sunday in the senior-1 black belt division. I won silver in medium heavy and bronze in absolute. I am still digesting the experience.
Congrats wombat!

hey wombat, those are great results, how many people were in those divisions? 2? just joking.
the masters and seniors divisions can be pretty tough as ur going against guys that have been black belts for 10+ years in many cases.

Thanks. There were five people in my weight division and four or five (I think) signed up in the open weight. It wasn't my best performance, but it was good to compete again.
The first time I came to Rio, I didn't speak Portuguese, didn't have any contacts down here and I had no idea what to expect. Had I known about Connection Rio back then I would've taken advantage of it for sure. It would've saved me a lot of hassles in the first few weeks.
This time around, I wanted to train at Alliance in Leblon so I decided to find a place nearby rather than stay down in Barra, but I hear Gordo's club is excellent.
I'm competing there in July for my first trip to Rio. Can't wait.
Cool stuff! Thanks!

If you are around, Gordo's academy has an open door and some great training.
nogidavid - i wanted to come win the copa do mundo, but i need surgery on my knee now :(
Good luck with the surgery David, a quick recovery to you.
I'm curious, how would you compare the level of competition to "American" tournaments?
