Comptia certs tma

Does anyone know anything about comptia network+ or comptia security+ ?

I'm looking to make a move to something new. There is a program offering an 18 month apprenticeship where you can earn both certs and experience. The program starts at $15/hour and goes to $24/hour by the end. I would have to get a second job during the 18 months but am willing to do it if it leads to something better.

Are these certs in demand? What kind of pay can be expected with these?

Thanks in advance

A paid apprenticeship in IT? Interesting....

.

They use to be a joke.

I just took the Network+ about 3 weeks ago. I was interested in learning something new and in the process learned a lot. I know that they definitely can help you get a start in the IT world.

They're entry level, but it sounds like that's where you're at. If you're trying to get into the IT field, that might be a good opportunity since it includes a job

I've never heard of a program like that, but I'd say go for it. You could finish that and then go back and get your A+ if you wanted to so you can have your Comptia trifecta (A+, Net+, Sec+).

These are your basic certifications to get you into the field.

If you have little to no experience in IT, then do the paid apprenticeship. real world experience while earning some certs and getting paid is a good start to your IT career, now you have something to put on the resume and certs. If you can get a degree, even an AS in IT, that will help you earn more along with certs/experience. some places you need certs and an IT degree just to get past HR, but at the really good places to work, degrees and certs do not matter as much as culture fit, experience, and knowledge/ability to learn.

all certs listed in this thread are NOT in demand, but are sometimes needed to get jobs, or get past HR to the interview. If you can make $24/hr with those certs, that is pretty good unless you live in a high cost of living area. I started my IT career with an AS it IT and no certs but with hard work and smarts, have moved up positions and pay while getting no more certs/degrees. I started at 37k a yr when I was new years ago. keep in mind certs dont mean much unless your job makes you have them. leadership, intelligence, hard-work, experience, those matter most.

The advice I would give you is once you have some certs and experience, try to get in an IT company with good reviews on Glassdoor, companies that win 'employee satisfaction in your current city', good culture fits between you and the company, and work you way up. A lot of people in IT are just there to collect the paycheck, but how you get the bigger paychecks are working smart, hard, show up on time, improve your work situation, befriend your boss etc... or you can just sit back and make 40-50k and have an easy job. I would not take jobs with on-call at night/weekends unless they compensate you a lot more for it.
