Condit's flying Knee's in the pocket cost him big

I love the technique but he got greedy in the pocket/clinch range with Hendricks on Saturday. They would slug it out and the second Condit had a slight advantage he would end a combo with a flying knee which each time Hendricks would turn into a slam especially in the third round if not exclusively.

The knee missed every time mostly because Hendricks was still standing up straight his knee just wasn't reaching high enough and it put him off balance badly. He might have even won the fight had he stayed balance and just kep swinging or reset.

He did throw the knee a lot, he might have been well advised to use it more judiciously, perhaps trying to time a takedown attempt. He still put on a spectacular show, and I will put money down to see him throwing flying knees next time.

I actually noticed this, as well. I just re-watched the fight too. Condit was doing his thing, then a flying knee would mess up his momentum. Also noticed Hendricks gassed after the second. Hope he dosent do that in a five rounder vs gsp. Phone Post

Yeah this is the big shame of the fight not being 5 rounds, not so Condit could win (which he might have) but so Hendricks could have seen what a 5 rounder is like and get a real idea where his 5 round gas tank is at at that pace.

Now he can only approximate, but ironically it got him a win he may not have gotten. However it would have also probably forced him to pace hismelf differently or at least learn how.

He started getting real predictable every time Hendricks was against the cage he would throw a knee every single time

he gambled and he came close.  A couple of those whiffed Hendrick's chin by mere inches.

Honestly IF ANY ONE OF THOSE LANDED he would've won by KOTN and got the win.

He took a chance with DHK too and it worked out wonderfully.

I'm not sure they came that close and Johnny might still have needed more to knock him out. The knees were done a bit sloppy as they looked like they already peaked before they even reached Hendricks face area. The knee needs to peak while connecting to really make the most impact.

Earlier in the fight it probably would have been a better time to use them. Tired at the end of a combo he just couldn't execute them as well as he could have.

People forget that was hendricks longest fight in a while, I don't think he catches gsp with that hay maker Phone Post

Once he missed the first couple he should have chaged to continuing to throw punches, more specifically body shots.

Ironically the body shots would have probably helped land a knee as it causes the opponent to drop his head a bit

Yup! Condit's a great fighter but showed poor fight IQ by continuing to throw flying knees and head kicks against a tired wrestler like JHen. When a wrestler is tired he will take you down if you make the slightest mistake.

This is a case where trying to finish a fight was doomed to begin with. By mid thrid round they had both proved their chins were not going to give at tha time get more significant strikes and keep your balance. Finishing the fight at that point is not going to save that fight from being considered some point fighting affair it was already a candidate for at least top 5 fights of the Year.

I thought the exact same thing. Phone Post

It was too predictable. Johny knew that Carlos would try something big when his back touched the cage.

Red meat for the anti -point fighting crowd

I just liked that even when backed into a corner he was being offensive. Phone Post

And when he was on his back, you know those elbows to the top of Hendricks' head hurt like hell.
