Confirmed: Pettis/Henderson next

Roufusport's Anthony "Showtime" Pettis wins UFC 144 KO of the Night Bonus and was just informed by Dana White that he gets the next shot at the UFC Lightweight World Title!!

posted by Roufus on FB just now.

Yes! Phone Post

 Wow.

At the end of the ppv, Joe said he had heard it straight from Dana and Lorenzo and a large reason was the KO finish.

Sho_Gunn -  Wow.

No doubt.

Marketing jackpot

As much as I want to see this, I don't really agree with this. Pettis should fight the winner of Miller/Diaz to get the #1 contender spot. DFW just wants PPV buys, and this will definitely get them...but come on. Fighters work hard to get up the ladder, and they seemingly get passed over for the bigger draw fight.

Pettis is good, don't get me wrong, but he got handled by Guida. Hendo handled Guida, so I don't see how this works out. Lauzon was looked over by everyone in the Guillard fight, but since he won that makes him worthy of Pettis getting a #1 contender spot? Come on...

I like Pettis but they are definitely rushing him to a title shot. I think if Nate beats Miller he should get the next shot. But oh well. WAR BENDO!

Not to mention that he won a not so great split against Stephens. I hate Nate Diaz, but the guy has looked exponentially better. I think he should at least get to fight for the #1 contender spot.

How long do you want to put Bendo on the shelf? The timing for this fight is perfect, it needs to happen. Then they will have a guy lined up for the winner (Diaz/Miller winner). Miller/Diaz isn't until May. Suggesting the winner of a fight in May should fight a guy who won tonight, in order to get a shot at other guy who fought tonight is ridiculous. They have a healthy champ, he shouldn't have to wait a year to fight.

well let's start the NEXT Ben Henderson support thread

I gotta agree with scarface here. it must be very discouraging for the rest of the lightweights to see that

When the hell is Melendez coming over to the UFC already? Unifying the belts should be the #1 priority right now, and they could easily do Melendez/Henderson in the Spring or Summer.

I agree about the timing.  Makes sense.  More activity from the champs is better.

cycklops support thread was an edge in this fight.  Def need a new one for the Pettis/Bendo II fight.

I will watch this fight.

Diaz/Miller next. Cant complain.

LOL @ the UFC trying to capture lightning in a bottle again.  And LOL @ Pettis not having to face a single top 10 guy for a title shot.

I think giving it to Pettis works because:

1. Pettis has beaten Bendo before is is the last WEC Lightweight Champion (which he won from Bendo)

2. Waiting for a fight to happen in May, then wait 4 or 5 months for the May winner vs a February winner (7-8 months on the shelf for Pettis) Then, waiting 3 or 4 months after the fight of February Vs May (11 - 12 months on the shelf for Benson Henderson).

Do you guys really want to wait 11 - 12 months to see Benson fight?

Pettis beat Henderson then was originally granted the UFC Title Shot but chose to stay active when Clay top controlled him for a narrow win.

Makes sense to me to have the rematch after Showtime gets the highlight reel KO of the night vs lauzon plus in May as someone above mentioned Diaz or Miller winner gets the next Title shot.

I think it makes sense.

I hope they don't bow to pressure and make a stupid Edgar/Bendo rematch. Bendo won.
