Chad is still smarting from the balls on the forehead remark...even though he claims Conor wont get to him emotionally then goes on about that remark and how it made it personal for him. LOL! Last thing you want to do with Conor is let your anger rule your emotions. I could be wrong but Chad is a dead man walking IMO...
The weigh ins are going to be intense...can't wait!
You could be onto something
They said the same Poirier but did he fight any more angry than he usu does?
Also Chad has also been giving Connor his props about bringing attn to the div etc, doesn't sound like it to me. This whole "in so ans so's head thing" is maybe the most speculative thing we can talk about without truly knowing.

I read somewhere the Piorier was mad he let him get to him like that. You're right though its hard to tell since an opponent is always going to say and try to act like he's not affected even if he is. And It really depends on the individual and their mental toughness. I really think Conor is on another level in the mental game though and it surprises their opponent when they realize he really believes he is going to destroy them and its not just shit talk.
The article posted on the psych thread (credit to btfos or posting) really gives some insight. And caused me to watch his fight with Dave Hill again and also gives some insight into his ground game his base etc. which I am sure has improved since then even.

"But when we were at the weigh-ins and he kicked off at me, I thought: Fuck, this guy really believes this. That was the first time it dawned on me quite how ridiculously confident he is and the self-belief he has."
"When he fought Dustin Poirier, I thought McGregor would win, but I didn’t think he’d get in Dustin’s head because Dustin is very experienced and high-level. But he made Poirier look shit. He gets in your head and it really overwhelms you."
"He’s got a presence about him and I’d never experienced anything like that before. You find that you’re trying so hard just to keep up with him but he’s always one step ahead of you… and he makes it seem quite effortless too."
This is really an overlooked part of the game I think. People think its all shit talk and shtick and it probably is for most. But then look at the Diaz brothers people know they are serious when they do it and it has effected their opponents. I believe it is how Nate beat Cerrone for example.
There is no doubt Connor's swagger can be ruffling and he is effortless/gifted in that dept. But i also read that Dustin had the toughest cut of his career and we saw him move up a fight later. Im not doubting he got under Dustin's skin but being that he was chosen for Connor as a brawler, i didnt see him come right out at Connor like Brimage or Brandao or like Cerrone did to Nate and got completely put off his game because of it.
So im not really looking into what the fighter's SAY so much as HOW THEY FIGHT because that is the teller - did they throw their regular game out the way because of emotion and id have to say that i did not see that in Poirier. Of course Connor took him out so fast anyhow.
The Dave Hill quotes may be interesting but thats also so unknown guy at a regional UK level too on the flip side. Im sure Connor pissed Aldo off. But would it have effected Aldo's actual fight game? I doubt it but we wont know until it happens. And i doubt you would but im sure some would say Aldo did get ruffled by trying to take Aldo down where as i think that is what Aldo should do - fight smart is the name of the game.
Also, i dont think it effected Siver either. He may have been pissed but he still fought his game as best he could imo.
As for the Poirier fight, obviously he took him out cold fast and that was impressive but there were still a couple moments that was of note against Connor imo - Connor dropping his hands inviting the attack but not reacting well when he got it. I think the old Connor would have countered it quite well but instead he reacted poorly imo.
Connor also didnt check Poirier's un set up leg kicks (though Poirier is a southpaw).
As for Connor taking Poirier out, i always think about what Jack Slack sayng that Connor took seconds to notice that Poirier just covers up when under strikes and that Connor simply went around the guard after he noticed this....but that is also the reason why Poirier was chosen for an opponent.
Lol chad has always been like this. Very level headed but it's just his everyday normal potty mouth that makes you think that. I think it's funnier people think it's smart to pressure a power puncher who thrives off being pressured and countering. As well as his definite ability to take down fighters who come in towards him punching or kicking to make the take downs easier. I love Connors sniping ability but pressuring isn't the way to go with a guy making his wrestling plans very open. He needs to stay on the outside and dance and pick this little man apart. Stay away and snipe stay away and snipe.
An interesting point on the flip side, while we're on the subject is how much the Lamas video seemed to get to not only Connor but to his camp. That Paddy guy confronted Lamas in person about it and Kavanaugh even tweeted some trash talk to Lamas after Lamas lost to Mendes about "sticking to videos" or something like that. You dont often see coaches jump in the fray like that and so petty like that. The irony of course is that Connor of course invites the shit talk by shit talking everyone preemptively so its funny how he and his camp act in return when its on them.

Hey, bro, we're not allowed to talk about the actual fight breakdowns here. Its all about who's in who's head and who's gonna teabag the other. ;p
but yes, stylistically, it will be interesting to see if Connor still maintains his recent pressure style or bring back his countering style and how both would look like against a wrestler...although the wrestler is giving up 3 inches in height and like 7 inches of reach?

I actually agree with you somewhat he needs to fight Chad more like he did Brimmage. Use his lateral movement and land big shots from angles, he is very good at that and Chad likes to pressure so it would be a perfect set up for him to land his heavy hands and possibly put Chad away fast.
Also when you pressure Chad with strikes at some point he likes to duck under and go for a take down. Conner is better at using distance then anyone Chad has fought so far and it would be harder to do on Conner however I think he is better off letting Chad come to him and hitting him from angles not giving him the chance to shoot. His power from angles is pretty amazing.
Conor is a smart guy we'll see how it plays out.
"The weigh ins are going to be intense...can't wait!"
NO! They aren't!
Aldo vs Conor weigh in would have been intense.
Yeah Conor is a beast. In the cage and on the mic
Yeah... no.
Marketing, how does it work?
Connor gonna finish the fight via a teabag kimura
What I've observed is fighters trying to resist the mind games but the moment they feel his power, speed and diversity of attacks it all changes.
It's almost like his comments start flooding their mind and they begin to wilt.
I know I'm a huge Conor fan but that's a genuine observation I've made.
btfos - It's surreal how even though Connor wasn't physically at his best against Poirier, he still essentially toyed with Poirier and blew him out of the water. Thats what happens when you rely on skills and not physicality (Conor is a purely based skill fighter) The mind>>>>>>>everything else.I fapped
Conor would probe his lead hand to gauge Poirier's reaction. Connor noticed that Poirier would react by going into a high guard shell. So what did Conor start doing? Conor started probing his lead hand to draw Poirier out into his high guard, and instead of following up with left straights, Conor started following up with loopy lefts around the guard exploiting Poirier's blind spots from high guard (that Conor drew out with probes/feints) Thats the utter brilliance of Conor. Connor is always making reads, adjustments, and staying one step ahead of his opponents. Conor is essentailly MMA's Floyd (or the closest to that in skill/making reads/adjusting)
Even the KO was a thing of beauty, even though if it was not up to the same cleaness as Conor's other finishes. Hard 2 step broken fient with pobes to mask intentions/occupy as he covered distance+to bait a reaction and then react himself. Interestingly enough, Porior adjusted. Instead of going into high guard after being probed by Conor, Porior recognized that, "oh heres the probes. The left is coming. Shit." So he attempted to weave underneath any lefts he thought was coming The idea that Poirier was put in there as a "gimmie" is absurd by the way. Totally insane and reeks newb-ism. What revisionist history too. Remember how Porior was supposed to "expose" Conor? Conor simply made it look like a gimmie because of how skilled he is. No one has beaten Porior like that. Only Conor. Porior really did nothing wrong technically. Conor is just a mastermind technician. Poirier made the adjustment and tried to slip/nend down to avoid, but Conor still got him by breaking the timing of his follow up left. Conor recognized the slip, held back on the left for a split second to fuck Porior's timing of his slip, then caught him out of position as he came up from his bend. All though even Conor admitted that a follow up uppercut after baiting the slip would have been the better punch selection, and thats why i said earlier that it wasnt as clean as Conor's other finishes.. But also thats why Conor is so amazing. He knows when he couldve done even better, and is always striving for perfection. Utimatley thats again the brilliance of Conor. That you can do the right thing and he STILL ONE UPS you. Conor will adjust to your adjustments.
Its unreal how skilled and slick Conor is. After viewing footage of both Conrad Mendes I find it really hard to believe that Mendes can beat Connor. Connor shows skills and smarts on an entirely different plain of existence. Mendes is basic with the same set ups all the time (fake the shot/tap body/then uppercut or exclusive counter rights) I agree with FightCity that Conor should fight him like he fought Brimmiahe. Lateral movement. Keep him at the end of his reach. Lefts/knees/uppercuts as Mendes attempts to close distance. I can see Conor schooling Mendes. Especially when Mendez gets desperate and starts to shoot telegraphed TDs from out of range Conor's uppercuts and knees will get him.
p.s thank you fot the shout out fightcity:) Youve always been a great poster. Enjoy your posts
