That is one of the craziest police shootings Iāve ever seen. āGIVE ME THAT GUN!!ā that gave me chills for some reason. Imagine being that cop and hearing the guy who you just shot 7 times say that while trying to wrestle it from you. Cop had to think āThis is how Iām going to dieā.

My curiosity wants to know what was wrong with this guy and why not try to taze him first? The guy seemed to be high on something.
I donāt normally defend cops but when a perp pulls out a knife, you put the taser away and upgrade to something better.

He could very well be dead now if he tried to taze him first. If 7 shots barely affected him, a tazer would likely have zero effect.

Unarmed = tazer is possibly an option. Armed = warning and then pew pew if warning is not heeded. There are plenty of vids where you can see that tazers were ineffective. Some reasons could be: Suspect is under the influence, thick clothing, one tuff MOFO, not enough spread in the tazer prongs, and etc.
You now have to drop your tazer and quick draw your handgun under stress, all while the bad guy is closing the distance on you. Quick drawing and getting an accurate shot is difficult enough, even without someone closing the distance with a knife. I have friends who are cops and most of them do not shoot that often. Most shoot to pass their qualifications, which vary from each department. The average from my friends was once or twice a year. Of course there are cops out there that are great with a firearm but they are the exceptions and not the average cop in most departments.

Taser is not appropriate for lethal threats without lethal cover which he did not have. Taser (Axon) admits that Taser is effective in only about 40 - 60% of deployments. This would likely have not been an effective strategy here because of the proximity to the subject who is advancing rapidly which is not effective for transition and good hits / probe spread.
Warning shots are absolutely reckless. That round is going somewhere and they are literally in an area occupied by innocent people.
Thatās prob why you see a lot of females tazed. Shit only works on them and midgets.
