Core strength training

What in your experience is the best way to train "core" muscles in the midsection (abs,obliques,erector spinae)? I'm not that much interested in looks or limit strength, but rather in that elastic,dynamic strength similar to what for ex. gymnasts have.

L sits from the floor on palms is hardest.  If you can get a so lid 15seconds off the floor with straight legs and pointed toes (mike always says that!) you are going good.
