I don't think 205 is any better of a matchup for him.
85 on the other hand might give him some new life.
Agree/Disagree?
at first i kinda thought that as well, but now i don't think that will really help him..
i think as a HW he's successful because he's faster than a lot of other HW's, and has a lot of power for someone giving up 30 lbs. but as a kickboxer, he was successful largely due to his leg kicks...
at 185 he won't be faster, and cutting weight might cause him some serious cardio issues, and deplete his power as well. and his reach/height is still normal at MW, or even WW... GSP actually has a longer reach than him.
i think Barry isn't as successful at HW because he's not able to use the striking style that made him successful in kickboxing (tons of low kicks), and his frame lacks the reach at HW (he's routinely giving up 6" or so)...
no having him skip 205 and lose another 20 is rediculous Why not have him cut off a leg
Because a 5ft11 man at 185 is still a pretty big dude, in fact it's normal weight for an adult man of that height.
Barry's frame isn't gigantic, he just isn't used to being middleweight yet.
he weighs 235 and u want him to make 185 ? ah dont think so
He's comparable to me, we are roughly the same weight even though I carry more muscle.
Yes, I could make 185 if I traded off a certain amount of muscle.
205 would be an easier cut for him but that wasn't the question.
I think he could make 185 if he focused on it, and it would not be an unnatural weight for him unless you're comparing the fact that he stays at 230+ currently.
5'11 185lbs is hardly the biggest guy at Middleweight.
^with that being said, he's not as soft as guys like DC or Rashad was at HW... he's just a really muscular guy, who's style is based off the power his mass and strength give him.
change his weight, and i think it changes his style, for better or worse...
If by that you mean could he stand up through an 85 camaro t top clad in only his tidy whities and cowboy hat while screaming "HERE COMES THE THUNDA" at tourists walking on the Vegas Strip, the answer is yes.

Extremely valid viewpoint, I hadn't considered that angle necessarily, although I do think Pat's skill would translate into power whatever division he choose.

and the weight cut discussion brings up my point, that this is a guy who's already training hours a day, which isn't really conducive for building/maintaining lots of muscle mass...
i don't know his nutritional plan or S&C regimen, but i think it's safe to say he's pretty gifted in the muscle mass department...
it might be counterproductive to put for the time/effort to get his weight down that much, especially for a guy who's competed at HW his whole career in kickboxing and MMA...
All jokes aside, I would like to see him get Dolce in his camp and drop 15 pounds or so off him. He could easily cut the rest. I just don't want to see him getting put out by guys so much larger than him.
Not trying to be that guy but it's bullshit they let someone like Barry in the UFC but not ben askren .. I know Barry is more entertaining but I would almost go out an even say if you put askren against Barry askren would still kick his ass even though Barry is up 3 more weight classes an for the record I am a Barry fan but just saying

He simply eats a lot, it's not a gift. We see a lot of guys in fitness just like him. That's why I think 85 might be a goal. He would be an absolute muscle machine at that weight and functionally stronger than most.
Again, he wouldn't be the biggest guy at middleweight, not even close.
I don't think he would be doing himself any favors at 205, the guys there are just as strong but faster.
