Could the Askren/DJ trade affect union talks?

The UFC has always danced around this thing of the fighters being contractors, not employees… but at the same time held them hostage on non-compete. I’m assuming Askren and DJ had to both agree to their release as well as sign their new contracts… but depending on how those contracts were set up and all played out… could this affect any current or future lawsuits dealing with anti-trusts and unions?

Being able to “trade contractors” doesn’t really happen in the real world. If my neighbor and I both higher different contractors to replace our roof, I don’t think we can then say hey… we are now gonna swap because I like how that guy works and my neighbor likes how your roof looks.

They didn’t “trade” each promotion agreed to release the fighter they had under contract and they signed new deals with a new org. If anything this helps UFC as they can argue they are willing to release unhappy fighters and plenty of other orgs out there for fighters to make money in.

No it won’t affect them, they’ll still be pointless

If it ain't Dutch, it ain't much -

Thanks Dutch. Was there any articles or such covering more specifics of how this played out with negotiations? I’d like to read about how they sorted this out… specifically if Askren and DJ agreed to and signed new deals before their respective orgs voided their contracts. Could of got messy if they were voided on good faith and then one or the other held out for more money from the opposing side allowing either to go back and sign both fighters.

No, it'll just cause idiots like yourself to make more idiotic fighter union threads.
