Q: There’s a size difference clearly, what do you think about that?
Couture: I’ve just come off of 10 weeks of training camp and in camp I worked with a guy who is bigger than Gabe, so he will actually be a step down for me.But with any of the bigger athletes, I have to be smarter and use my head.
Q: What did you think about the Mirko Cro Cop knockout?
Couture: I was as surprised as anyone. The fight was going pretty much as I expected it to go, with Gabriel getting Cro Cop down on the ground and using elbows, but that headkick came out of nowhere. It was well-timed and well-placed.
Q: Are you ready to fight Gonzaga?
Couture: Absolutely. I have one more week of hard training, and then I start to taper for the fight. But right now I feel good, and I am ready to go.
Q: Do you think you have an advantage fighting here in Vegas?
Couture: Well the Mandalay Bay Events Center has air-conditioning, so climate won’t be an issue. The week of the fight may affect Gonzaga a little bit because it’s usually the hottest month of the year here in Vegas. But I don’t think it will make much of a difference. The only advantage is this is my home, and so I can stay at home and sleep in my own bed, drive my own car -- those will be the only things that differs between us.
Q: Do you think the fight will go all five rounds?
Couture: I think this fight has the potential to go all five rounds. I am prepared to go all five rounds. But I don’t expect either one of us to make mistakes, so it’s going to be a tough, competitive fight.
UFC president Dana White comes between Randy Couture, right, and challenger Gabriel Gonzaga on the latest cover of the Improper Bostonian.

“I’m worried about Randy, because this guy is so nasty,” Dana White said of Gonzaga. “He’s so powerful and he has so many weapons.”
“There’s a scene in there where Gabriel grabs an Everlast heavybag and body locks it and throws it like he’s slamming it, and the top of the bag explodes. I mean, all the (expletive) comes flying out of the bag. We have to blur out the Everlast logo because they’re not going to like that when he crushes their bag.
“This guy’s an animal. He’s the real deal.”
White’s excited about the New York-area appearance, but still has his eyes on Boston, the city he used to call home.
“My dream is the Boston Garden,” said White, who would have to get the fight sanctioned. “I’m serious. They’re very interested and it’s a matter of scheduling.” ...
sweet, go Randy!

UFC 74: AUGUST 25, 2007 IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA
Main Card Bouts:
Randy Couture 15-8-0 vs. Gabriel Gonzaga 8-1-0
Georges St. Pierre 13-2-0 vs. Josh Koscheck 11-2-0
Joe Stevenson vs. 32-7-0 Kurt Pellegrino 16-2-0
Kendall Grove 10-3-0 vs. Patrick Cote 10-4-0
Roger Huerta (18-1-1) vs. Alberto Crane (8-0)
Preliminary Bouts:
Marcus Aurelio 14-4 vs. Clay Guida 21-4-0
Renato "Babalu" Sobral 27-7-0 vs. David Heath 9-0-0
Thales Leites 10-1 vs. Ryan Jensen 11-1
Frank Mir (9-2) vs. Antoni Hardonk (5-3)
i still find it hard to believe that Mir only has two losses on his record.
aurelio vs. guida and leites vs. jensen should be good fights.
wow huerta on the main card and aurelio and babalu in the prelims... something is wrong there
Mir has 3 losses (all 1st round TKO's in the UFC).
Added a bigger magazine pic..
Really a great card, even the prelims are pretty good. I also like Gonzaga in this one, but if it goes decision, I can see Randy pulling it out.
Gonzaga had a boring ass fight with Kevin Jordan at UFC...knocked him out in the last 20 seconds but the fight was weak.
Randy will win.
edit~Huerta is an exciting fighter to watch, also brings in the latino crowd. You got to have a bad ass mexican or two on every card. Dana knows.
ttt
"Gonzaga had a boring ass fight with Kevin Jordan at UFC...knocked him out in the last 20 seconds but the fight was weak."
You do realize that Gonzaga buried his daughter and nearly buried his wife just before that fight right (and of course still won by brutal KO)?
Or that he has won 3 fights in the UFC including destroying the #3 HW in the world since then.
Or that Randy is 5-5 in his last 10 fights and 1-2 in his last 3 HW fights while Gonzaga is 8-1 (finishing all 8 fights including his most recent win over a guy who is better than anyone Randy has ever beat)?
Gonzaga by anything at all.
Bullshit Clay isn't on the main card
