COVID-19 new cases question....help

I Understand about the virus, lab and science concept being in that field.

I've been tracking my areas cases, and over the past 4 days:

Is this concerning? It is for a county that has upto 530 cases now out of 164k.

You ded bruh

I'm more worried that we just got into a "yellow" phase, but people fucked it up

No it's not concerning. The test results will continue to go upwards. That was always going to be the case. The number of positives is not the issue. The number of those requiring hospitalization and the number of deaths are the issue. If THOSE start to skyrocket, then it's worthy of concern. Until then, no.

Thanks man.

I wasn't sure if people freaking out more over positives on general, or death....

I would imagine more positives with lesser/no deaths is great. Shows a higher survival rate.

Just want to fucking go out already!

You’re asking about the leap, yeah?

If you look at any of the covid stat sites, you’ll see the dailies are all wildly variable & can’t be used to draw conclusions about anything. All the good sites include dailies averaged over a week or similar period to smooth out all the sampling errors. People chose to not seek medical attention over the weekend, data entry wasn’t done consistently, etc. You want to look at those averaged metrics to see what’s going on.

Also, most don’t start the timers on their graphs until x number of cases - usually 100 - because you’re in the statistical noise floor with low numbers.

Once you’re past those hurdles, sudden consistent trends generally indicate policy changes (legal or cultural), or the exponential math of viral curves kicking in (both starting & ending).

TLDR I wouldn’t freak out over one day’s data.

I get that. I'm dying to get out just to get some cash in the pockets of our small little restaurants in the area. I don't even eat out much to begin with, but I've got a raging hard on for this brisket plate and a stiff seven/seven.

I think in the end of all this, we're gonna confirm that there are and have been hundreds of thousands if not over a million people that contracted the virus and never got sick in the country. The mortality rate is definitely lower than the official number. We're counting all the deaths, but missing TONS of overall cases.

So yeah. My eyes are on hospitalization rates and death rates. They're looking far better than we were told, so that's a net positive.

covidtracking.com

what state do you live in?  i've been keeping a spreadsheet for months.

also it could be that they simply added the positive cases all in one day.  you have to take rolling averages to get a good idea of where the positive cases are going.  generally 5-7 day rolling averages are needed to smooth out the bumpiness of the data and how it is reported.

for example, for the longest time i couldn't understand why the percent positive rate between NJ and NY was so different.  well it turned out NJ had been sitting on a shitload of negative test results and that was skewing the data.  once those were reported the massive difference between NJ and NY disappeared for the most part.

I'm In PA (beaver county area just outside of Allegheny).

Good news is our private pools open tomorrow! Regulations enforced for covid....no summer league swim season (daughter bummed about that, but sees the glass half full).

We are looking to go green ny June 5....

Beaver county only had 36 new cases last week with a population of 168k, so we needed to stay under 50 cases per 100k.
