Cracking your knuckles

Any scientific data that it may casue arthritis? I've heard it many times but can't find real scientific data. I need to know, cause i crack mine 100 times a day.

thx

I've been doing it for ever since I can remember. Not just my knuckles, but most of my joints from my neck to my toes.

The joints that crack the least for me are my elbows and my hips, in that order.

Anyway, I can only say from personal experience, I have only two joints with problems: left knee and left shoulder.

The doctor that did my shoulder surgery (an ortho)said there were some arthritic processess in my shoulder joint, but nothing major.

He could not link it to my cracking, but said it was most likely from my sport-practice these many years.

mataleo1,

Cracking your knuckles does not cause arthritis. The popping sound you may hear is actually the release of nitrogen gas around the joints.

Although Samatikan's attempt to prove that cracking your knuckles will not cause arthritis by using a causal argument, his 2 cents regarding his personal experiences are of no relevance to your situation.

cracking your knuckles does not have any side effects-that is an old wives tale

I used to crack my knuckles and fingers. I stopped when they started swelling up.

its only anecdotal, but the joints I cracked a lot are the ones which hurt most regularly now
