Craziest finish ever?

Anything top that?

Yes

no

Agreed.

Yes definitely

It's not even close .

Yes. Especially given that it happened with 1 second to go. Add on top of that that it was so unorthodox and such a clean, total knockout. So rad

Do tell

Last second weird 6 to 12 elbow in a five rounder? Yeah.

The shaven headed NY guy (ex TUF??) back in the day who played possum bent over hurt before standing up straight & KOing his opponent who was charging in for the finish. Can’t believe I can’t remember their names.

It is certainly up there in terms of context such as the time of the elbow but it wasn't great visually as it was awkward looking.

For me the Machida crane kick is still one of the best I've seen.

didn't look great? LOL it was the last second of the 5th round and it hit flush.. can't get much better than that.. it was an evolutionary moment in mma

Scott Smith/ Pete Sell, plus Smith was involved in another similar but not quite as dramatic finish in Strikeforce a couple years after that too, I forget which fight and don't feel like looking it up.

Rampage/ Arona was nuts when it happened, plus there have been a bunch more if I got started listing them we'd be here all night. Frank Shamrock powerbombing Igor Zinoviev at UFC 16 was one of my favorites for years; super fast running jump knee KO's (BJ Penn, Kid Yamamoto, Aldo) were also the shit but you hardly ever see them anymore because people are more aware they can happen. Capoiera kick KO/ wheel kick KO's can be pretty jaw dropping. DJ's body slam to mid-air armbar was ridiculous, Genki Sudo's flying submissions were mind-bottling in the day, Ryo Chonan's flying leg scissor to inverted heel hook of Anderson Silva, Fedor's kimura directly after getting suplexed by Randleman on the back of his neck, the times Tank Abbott nearly killed people in the ring, Vitor Belfort's blitz of Wanderlei, almost every time Anderson Silva entered the matrix, there have been 500 crazy finishes in the history of MMA, that's part of what makes it so great. It can be very unpredictable.

It was definitely up there with any crazy finish out there as being one of the crazy moments of MMA but to me it's really hard to pick a winner. There have been so many and they all get ever so slightly tarnished with age due to repeated viewing so it's hard to latch onto any one for too long.

Scott Smith vs Cung Le 1 right ? I remember some sort of unexpected finish there . I think Yair has the craziest elbow finish now for sure. The fact he wasn't look but it was so obviously intentional combined with the possibility that he was losing the fight and got that finish over a capable opponent with a small amount of time left puts it above Silva Fryklund to me .

Blows my mind , he was looking down but you can tell he timed it.

How about DJ’s flying armbar in the last round?

That was crazy but my opinion is Hughes vs Newton

You may be right about Cung Le fight, not sure.

Definitely Yair's finish has to be one of the best especially considereing the perfect timing of the sequence and the fact it was literally last second in a fight he was losing on all 3 score cards.

Hard to say if it was the craziest ever though, for instance here's a crazy one from muay thai that caved a guy's head in similar to MVP vs. Cyborg Santos:

It just kind of depends on the criteria I guess. Not taking anything away from Yair's finish though it was certainly astounding to say the least.

One judge had him up if I recall.

In terms of context yea it was great but without a replay it wasn't as great as the Lyoto Couture kick. Was a creative flush shot but you need a replay to appreciate. Live it isn't as obvious hence the shock isn't as impactful. Just my opinion.

Pat Barry vs Kongo used to have the record.

Just everything put together a top 10 opponent who is known for taking abuse, losing a great fight, last second complete eyes shut, out cold snoring on the ground face first KO. This is probably the best KO ever.

Nah Couture was 45+ years old.. that elbow is beyond the realms of ordinary fighers and fights in general, it was magnificent. They were probably fighting in another dimension when that elbow landed

That one was great, I don’t think that guy was playing possum though, I think he caught a clean liver shot and managed to muster up one more punch before going down.
